We live in the layer of the atmosphere called the troposphere. Here is where all weather occurs, where airplanes fly, and where bad ozone can lead to smog and respiratory issues. @franklinlorax #apesair

Having multiple devices plugged in can take energy even if they are not in use. Unplugging these devices is a quick and easy way to save energy/money! @franklinlorax #apesenergy

One bad habit that my family has is leaving the tv on when no one is in the living room! That is energy (and money) wasted. Since I have learned more about receiving energy from coal power plants, I am trying to get my family to work on this habit! @franklinlorax #apesenergy

The car I drive is a Toyota Hylander. This vehicle is a hybrid. This means that it is better for the environment! Though this car isn’t electric, it still makes a positive difference:) @franklinlorax #apesenergy

My house is powered by coal which emits CO2 into the atmosphere. Other energy sources like wind and solar energy are cleaner for the environment. However, the problem with these energy sources is that they vary in availability and intensity. @franklinlorax #apesenergy

Super thankful for all the public land available in our state of Wisconsin! This gives my dog so much room to run around👍🏽🐶🐾 @franklinlorax #apesland

There are many different types of soils, such as silt, sand, or clay. Depending on the type of soil, porosity, water retention, and permeability can vary. @franklinlorax #apesland

My yard has lots of rocks that’s are different shapes and sizes. When water flows through then we can determine the size and porosity. @franklinlorax #apesland

This is where my family grows a vegetable garden in the summer. Just like the radishes we grew in class, the soil here needs to have a specific amount of potassium, phosphates, nitrates as well as a specific pH in order to grow the vegetables we plant. @franklinlorax #apesland

Due to the pandemic of COVID-19, our population is using masks in order to keep each other healthy. This has decreased death rates around the world to keep stable populations! @franklinlorax #apespop

An ecological footprint is the impact of a person/community on the environment, expressed as the amount of land needed for their use of natural resources. One way to reduce your footprint is to recycle. My family recycles to help save the Earth! @franklinlorax #apespopulation

This salad is an example of a vegetarian meal. After learning how many resources I use through my ecological footprint, I pledged to have a vegetarian meal at least once a month. This change reduced my footprint by 1 earth, which is a big difference. 🌎 @franklinlorax #apespop

After taking the ecological footprint quiz, I realized that most of my footprint was made up by the amount of driving I do. To reduce this, I can start carpooling more with others and driving a car with a fuel efficient tank! 🚘 @franklinlorax #apespop

It is important to be aware of the impacts our decisions can have on our ecological footprint. Something as easy as using a reusable water bottle instead of a plastic one reduces the amount of waste we produce while also reducing our ecological footprint. #apespop @franklinlorax

This is my dog Blu and he is a K-Strategist! Dogs produce lower amounts of offspring and are cared for as they grow up, whereas r-strategists have lots of offspring that aren’t cared for. #apeseco @franklinlorax

In the ecology unit, we learned all about the transfer of energy throughout the food chain. For instance, a grasshopper gets it's energy from a producer, just like I got my energy from this goldfish. @franklinlorax #apesecology

In my backyard, we have several ash trees within the woods. Since the invasive species of emerald ash borers came to the United States, they have killed many of our ash trees by feeding on the bark, leaving the trees dead as you can see in the picture. @franklinlorax #apeseco

here is a perfect example of a k-strategist. maisy is an english retriever who is just growing out of her puppy stage. she has a longer lifespan than r-strategists and can only produce few offspring! @franklinlorax #apeseco

Even though temperatures can get very cold in Wisconsin, I am glad that I live in a temperate forest biome. Living here means we experience all four seasons! #apeseco @franklinlorax
