@BDHerzinger I served 14 years AD. Medically retired 9 years ago. I haven't gotten 1 flu shot since I've been out. I also haven't tested positive for the flu. Am I some sort of miracle?

In two decades of military service I've never met a person who had a moral issue with the flu vaccine.

A 21-year-old woman from Dallas, Texas recently turned a short airport layover into a moment she will never forget. When she learned that her boyfriend, who serves in the military, would have a 30-minute layover at a Dallas airport between flights, she realized it might be her only chance to see him for a long time. But there was a problem. Without a boarding pass, she would not be able to get through airport security. So she came up with a plan. She bought a $70 plane ticket for a flight she never intended to board, simply so she could pass through security and meet him at the gate. Sara and her boyfriend met at the Dr. Pepper factory in Waco, Texas, and had been together for just over six months. From the beginning, their relationship had been long distance because of his military service. As soon as he received his orders and she learned his connection would be in Dallas, she decided she was going to make those 30 minutes count. When the moment finally came, the two reunited at the airport gate, sharing a brief but emotional visit before he had to board his next flight. Sara later posted a video of the reunion on TikTok on February 6, writing: “Falling in love is buying a ticket just to get into the airport to see your long-distance boyfriend for 30 minutes between flights.” The video quickly went viral, gaining more than two million views. For Sara, the layover happening in her city felt like a small miracle, and she hopes the story encourages other military couples to hold on through the distance. Sometimes love shows up in the smallest windows of time.

George Washington believed that vaccinating his troops against smallpox was the key to winning the Revolutionary War and our independence. A founding father from 250 years ago had a better understanding of science and military readiness than Pete Hegseth.
The Washington Post@washingtonpost

Breaking news: The military will no longer require U.S. troops to receive the annual flu vaccine, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, rolling back what he described as “overreaching mandates that only weaken our war-fighting capabilities.” wapo.st/4dZY8UL

@QuestsAbroad Umm someone has never been to the South. Returning a borrowed tool to your neighbor is a 2 hour commitment. Bump into a nice old lady at Walmart? Get ready for an hour with Ms Sally, 15 mins in you get introduced to Glen her plumber who just happened to walk by...

The absolute best way to understand the difference between US and Mexican culture is to watch how people leave a dinner party. 🇺🇸 The US: You wait for a lull in conversation, announce to the table that it is getting late, thank the host, and walk to your car. Total time: five minutes max 🇲🇽 The Mexican: You announce you are leaving. This initiates a new round of conversation. Ten minutes later, you stand up. Then you go to every single person in the room for a hug, a kiss on the cheek, and a small departing chat. Total time: thirty minutes, at least It is an entire social event you have to build into your schedule, but it’s one of the many reasons Mexican culture feels so warm and welcoming.

@RonnieAdkins Spent 14sh years AD. Med retired, 100% VA. 99.9% of people would look at me as a normal able-bodied dude. But if you see me at the beach, you'd start to see some of the scars. Would I rather be whole again and a little bit poorer? Absolutely.

I don’t have much to say on the VA benefits thing. I’m unrated. I won’t be forever, but I can tell you that there is a very poor understanding of what 100% (or any other %) disabled means vs what it doesn’t. Regardless of if they “fix the fraud” or not, there will still be people at 100% disability rating walking around you normally. That’s simply because it doesn’t stand for how disabled you are, nor does it align directly to length of service and/or deployments. It’s a percentage of total benefit. If you’re purposefully or ignorantly misrepresenting that, especially with the resources available for you to educate yourself, we have beef.

Hey @DeptofWar and @StateDept are you aware of these Americans being held hostage for two months?
Carter Hughes@itscarterhughes

Since December 29, 2025, two American pilots have been illegally detained in a Guinea, West Africa prison. The pilots were dragged off their plane after making a scheduled fuel stop in Conakry, the nation’s capital. According to flight logs and radio recordings, air traffic control had granted the pilots permission to land. What came next should not be tolerated. Moments after landing, approximately 100 armed soldiers surrounded the plane with automatic rifles and armored vehicles. The pilots, who do not speak French, were forcibly removed from the plane and taken into custody. Guinea’s government accused the American pilots of entering national airspace and landing without authorization. Recorded ATC communications show clearance was given to the pilots and they had explicit permission to land in the country. More than six weeks later, both pilots remain prisoners abroad. Guinea’s prisons are described as harsh dangerous conditions, including lack of electricity and running water, severe overcrowding, and inmates rotating sleep due to limited space. Three civilian judges have ruled the pilots committed no crime, and an appellate court has ordered their release yet the military has refused. The multi-million dollar U.S. registered Gulfstream IV jet remains seized by the Guinean government. Pilot Fabio Espinal Nunez (from New Jersey) and Pilot Bradley Scott Schlenker (from Illinois) remain in a Guinea prison to this day. Their families are urging U.S. officials, including President Trump, to bring the pilots home and to send the Guinean government a message: Detaining American pilots is not tolerated.

@rgoodlaw "The calculus of reasonableness must embody allowance for the fact that police officers are often forced to make split-second judgments—in circumstances that are tense, uncertain, and rapidly evolving—about the amount of force that is necessary in a particular situation."

As a lawyer, I've been waiting for this. Independent autopsy of Renee Good is in. Strong evidence against Agent Ross, given what it means about second or third shot through left-side window. It's second and third shots that make easiest criminal case of a willful killing. 1/2
