It appears that firing Malone, dumping MPJ, and letting Russell Westbrook walk in FA were all missteps. They were far from the issues with this team. Malone brought a competitive edge that was lacking. MPJ was ascending as a player. And Russ brought ball handling and athleticism

I don't think there's a big trade that meaningfully increases Denver's championship equity. Their best bet that I see, and it's neither super encouraging or likely, is to just pay the huge tax bill, run it back and hope Gordon is healthy. Maybe change coaches, tweak the margins.
