China is often portrayed as either unstoppable or failing to push tech frontiers. The U.S. is celebrated as the AI leader but criticized for dependence on rivals. CSIS EST experts argue the reality is more complex—and instructive: "The question is whether the United States will reassert scientific, engineering, and manufacturing prowess, especially where it has lost ground, or whether it will continue to cede leadership." “What makes America such a great nation is that we are a tapestry of one generation after another, each bringing their culture, traditions, religions, and ethnic identities to the United States in search of a better life. All of this is woven together, which is why the United States has been able to reinvent itself over and over again. And as part of that iteration, I am an Indian American whose parents came here in the 1950s.” — Congressman Ami Bera @RepBera (D-CA) Watch: csis.org/events/solidar…

“Part of our success came from creating open markets. This was very successful for American companies and the broader U.S. economy. It also helped [foster] stable democracies. However, we must also understand the angst of the American workers... the sweet spot will be finding the right balance between the two.”—Congressman Ami Bera (D-CA) Watch the full episode with @RepBera and @NGirishankar here: csis.org/events/solidar…
