@langstonwertzjr Rationale point #2 is extremely timely today: Reduce the increased number of “opt-outs” that we experienced in 2025-2026 with the current 48-team format. Most folks have no idea the amount of schools/teams have been opting out this year because they only see the final brackets.

Reducing NCHSAA playoffs to 32 teams, vs 48, makes sense to me. In year 1 of the 8 class system, we see lots of byes and blowouts in Round 1. Not to mention some really long travel times in some classes. Driving that bus on the highway is expensive, especially when a 9-0 loss is coming after you arrive.

Since they are available to public, sharing our letter to #NCHSAA Board of Directors to consider REDUCING the size of playoff brackets for each applicable sport to 32-teams, opposed to the current 48 model. This will be in the Sports Committee at this week’s meeting. Rationale:

@coachmattera @Kevin_Coulter_1 Some charter schools were eligible to apply for PPP loans because most are organized as nonprofits; those schools qualified for those loans to cover payroll, rent, and utilities. Research shows ~45 schools received an average of $620k.

If you’re upset about May 1st you’ll be really upset to learn that NC charter schools received over a billion dollars in PPP loans. It was a practice called “double dipping”. PPP loans are being investigated. I hope this highly unethical practice will be corrected. #nced #ncpol
