There are some fairly silly folks out there with some fairly unrealistic timelines for achieving it, sure, but I really don't understand why prison abolition isn't considered a common sense endgoal in the same vein as abolishing homelessness or hunger

The great canard in British politics is that voters are sick of professional politicians. The most popular Labour politicians entered politics full time at 24, 25 and 22. The voters actually want a good communicator who can’t be blamed for anything that upset them.

@nutstothis I mean yeah, pretty much! Imo we can get 90% of the way there pretty quickly with things like an emphasis on community orders, addressing economic factors leading to crime etc and the remaining 10% is a generational process of undoing the social ills that make a Breivik

I’ve blocked and removed more so-called “comrades” this week than I ever have dealing with the Labour right. Let that sink in.
These aren’t socialists. They’re disruptors, infiltrators, and the politically indoctrinated. They are people more interested in tearing others down than building anything meaningful.
There’s no appetite for serious debate. No interest in creating a structurally sound, legally compliant, data-secure, progressive socialist party including the branches. Plans are being worked on and this is underway. Branches are not book clubs. They are data and accounting units, each and every one of them.
Disagreement? Offer a different view? Provide honest thoughts based on your own experience? They don’t engage instead they go straight for your jugular.
We don’t have time for that circus.
As Sweet Brown once said: “Ain’t nobody got time for that.”

We have improvised since then and every region so far has voted by a wide margin not to stand not because we didn't want to, but because it has been made impossible for us. Votes now undermined by HQ

Some real positive progress, and ... maybe wishful thinking ... but to me it sounds like the fractiousness of the first meetings might be subsiding. I hope!

@joshpizpom The deadline to set up branches, very candidates, open selections, hold hustings , announce results, allow a challenge of the results, appoint your nominating officer and deputy , file paperwork, make sure it’s all correct … is in a week ?

Update: Party spox says a decision has not been taken, despite their Scotland rep saying there wouldn't be time to stand candidates.
They said: "A full membership consultation is being initiated to inform the final decision on standing candidates."
