@gonglei89 Because the PRC is not the Qing Dynasty. Taiwan was taken by Japan from the Qing, and handed over to the RoC/KMT after WW2. The PRC/CCP never controlled it.

@Cabforpitt Every resistance group is a “terrorist” group in the eyes of those they’re resisting lol. Either way “free and fair elections” is not how self determination or sovereignty works in international law. Otherwise Basque would be independent.

@gonglei89 If there was a free and fair election (I would probably lean towards multiple elections spaced out over a period of years to prevent hasty decisions) I would be supportive. I don't think terrorist groups should be allowed to unilaterally secede.

@Cabforpitt In the modern day Taiwan is not recognized under international law as a separate country. In order for Taiwan to self determine it would need to do formal declaration, and the sovereign its separating from would have right of response. Self determination isn’t granted by default.

@gonglei89 In the modern day, the People's Republic of China doesn't control Taiwan and the people that live there do not wish to join it. My belief is that we should uphold their right to self-determination as the morally correct thing to do regardless of who has claimed it in the past.

Juat found out that in competitive irl yugioh bluffing is illegal?? A player got a 6 month tournament ban for putting tokens off to the side that his deck doesnt actually use in order to trick opponents into believing hes running different cards than he was
