Yes. This would almost certainly get blocked by the league. That said... 50.5(e)(4): "Under no circumstances may a Club... reacquire as part of a Retained Salary Transaction the SPC of a Player who was on that Club's Reserve List within the past calendar year; " The player on team A would need to be signed by team B. Then traded to team C with retention. And then team C trades them back to team A without additional retention. So technically the club would be re-acquiring this player but NOT in a "Retained Salary Transaction".

@celticsean418 The agent wins in all cases. Both maximize the money the player gets

@CapWages As fun as both parts seem, this feels like bad faith negotiations by the clubs (or collusion even if only in claim). Feel like this just sours that agent and the teams involved

In Part 1 we tried to play nice. But what if you're a GM who chooses violence? Part 2: Supercharging the Offer Sheet tldr: > be Carolina > offer sheet Carlsson at $21M > flip him to Philly and swap picks > retain $3-5M and grab an extra pick > or take two firsts + players now

Quick recap: Anaheim reportedly offered Carlsson 12.5M. Leo's camp countered with 15M. Flyers Offer sheet came in at 18M. Was there a way to avoid this cap carnage? Here's our modest proposal to use offer sheets as a tool of peace instead of war:

@Jobek96 Only if the team matches. If they don't, the acquiring team can trade immediately

@sebclem09 For the same reason his camp offered to sign with Anaheim at $15M (an offer Anaheim rejected) instead of signing the Flyers offer sheet at 18M.

@CapWages Why would Carlsson sign the Columbus offer instead of the Flyers one??

@Fly19081660161 He can be traded by the team he signed the offer sheet. Sending him directly back to Anaheim with retention is what the league might block.

Hypothetical question 2. If you're Philly, would you pay 5 (instead of 4) 1st round picks for Leo Carlsson?
