It’s just been brought to my attention that the origin of “if the gun doesn’t fit, you must acquit” is the OJ Simpson trial. Candace is doing a play on OJ’s lawyer saying “if the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit.” In case we needed any more evidence Candace is working overtime to get a guilty man off. Not sure I would’ve chosen to model my sayings after OJ Simpson and his attorneys, but here it’s quite fitting.

The pro war side can dismiss this all they want. Go ahead. All I can tell you is that I personally know multiple VERY conservative lifelong Republicans voters who are so furious and feel so betrayed that they’re planning to sit out the midterms. I don’t think that’s the right move and don’t encourage it. But this is something I’m hearing pretty often. People are pissed. Maybe that doesn’t show up on this site. Maybe it doesn’t show up yet in the polls. But it’s real. Go talk to people. Actual human people.

Deep Throat was a code name for the undercover operation to take down Nixon! People invoke the "Deep Throat" Watergate analogy today as shorthand for: A high-level insider (often in government or an administration) who leaks damaging information to the media or opponents. Anonymous or confidential sourcing that drives major scandals or investigations. Accusations of betrayal from within ("deep state" sabotage, whistleblowing, or self-serving leaks). Comparisons between Nixon-era secrecy/cover-ups and current events, whether by critics of an administration (portraying leakers as heroes exposing corruption) or defenders (portraying them as disloyal insiders undermining elected leaders). “Deep Throat" was the code name for Mark Felt, then the Associate Director of the FBI. He met Woodward secretly in a parking garage, offering guidance like the iconic line "follow the money." Felt's leaks were motivated partly by personal and institutional grievances (he was passed over for FBI Director after J. Edgar Hoover's death and disliked some Nixon actions). His identity remained secret until 2005, when he was revealed shortly before his death.
