A Tulare County detective was ambushed and killed Thursday morning while serving an eviction notice in Porterville, CA. Detective Randy Hoppert was shot by a 60-year-old suspect armed with a high-powered rifle. He died at a local hospital, leaving his four-months-pregnant wife behind. The suspect barricaded himself, then later emerged in tactical gear and opened fire on SWAT. Officers ran him over with a BearCat, killing him instantly. No prior record. Motive unknown.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are making a complete shambles of things. The decision to exclude people from talks yesterday was disrespectful and arrogant. They need to pick up the phone, engage with protesters and focus on resolving the crisis by bringing fuel prices down quickly. No half measures.
