NASA´s X-59 research aircraft returned prematurely from a test yesterday, after receiving a "return-to-base call". The pilot and aircraft landed without. More information is forthcoming.

@onlygoodvibes23 @Microinteracti1 What about the non-NATO countries that said "no"? It's not a NATO issue. But this is what happens when you consistently s**t on allies. You end up not having any ... and apparently are too stupid to realize that that's the FAFO of s**tting on your allies.

It’s called testing who you can rely on when called. Why don’t think Trump did this, it’s testing alliances, NATO. Trump has been critical of NATO, criticizing them for not paying their share, yet expecting the U.S. to pay and always come to the rescue. Right, he got them all to show their hand, not to good for those countries. But guess what, the first sign of conflict with any of these nations, guess who they call first, yup the U.S. God help those countries if that moment comes during Trumps term, and follow on administration.

10 Countries. 0 Warships. Trump went hat in hand to the world. The world checked its phone and put it back in its pocket. France said no. Officially. In writing. Germany said nothing, which is German for no. Norway said no. The UK is “discussing options with allies,” which is British for no. Japan stayed silent while 70% of its Middle East oil supply sits behind a minefield. South Korea watched Washington and Tehran play chicken with its own energy supply and declined to pick a side. China called it a sovereign right and hung up. Qatar didn’t just refuse. Qatar stopped production entirely and declared force majeure. Their energy minister did not mince words: this will bring down economies of the world. Iran is still there. Still attacking ships. Still laying mines. Still holding the strait. The most powerful military on Earth sent out the call. Ten countries heard it. The result is a number that requires no commentary: zero. This is what the end of American power looks like in practice. A request for warships that came back empty. Washington spent decades telling the world that the US-led order was worth defending. The world has moved away from the US. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

@Steven_W_Sloan @Microinteracti1 When you completely disrespect your allies ... is it any wonder this is what one gets? NATO isn't relevant for a war of choice in the Middle East. But peak temper tantrum would be to pull out of NATO because of this.

@Microinteracti1 So, we don't have allies. Good to know. They can fund NATO themselves. I think the US can take care of ourselves.

Internationalize the Reopening of Hormuz! Good news from President Trump today, and expected given the importance to many of America’ allies of petroleum flows thru the Straits of Hormuz. "Hopefully China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and others, that are affected by this artificial constraint, will send Ships to the area so that the Hormuz Strait will no longer be a threat by a Nation that has been totally decapitated," President Trump added. Not sure about China being included given their behavior recently and track record in the Red Sea and counter piracy operations. France is already sending a flotilla and hopefully soon Japan sends mine sweepers. History is repeating from the early 90s… Japan has over the years loosened interpretations of its pacifist constitution, such that if Iran’s threat to its energy deemed a national danger it can act - sending minesweepers especially as the direct threat from Iran’s military eliminated becomes more politically viable. Memories still linger of Japan’s tardy response in Gulf War One. foxnews.com/live-news/us-i…

As a former KC-135R pilot, this tragedy really hits close. By the looks of this photo, we almost lost lost two aircraft and crews. The aircrew did a fantastic job getting this one back on the ground safely. May the Warriors of the fallen KC-135 RIP, praying for their family and friends.

DOGE said it was cutting government waste. So they gutted USAID — the agency that feeds starving people around the world. Meanwhile the Pentagon spent millions on lobster, ribeye, and even a $98,000 piano. (link in reply)

@barkmeta You could join the Navy and get assigned to a ship or submarine on deployment … you would then 1. Be paid from those taxes, and 2. Enjoy all that lobster paid for by those taxes … it may only be once or twice on deployment. Would you also like to cut the pay of the enlisted?

@CarlFago @tshugart3 😳it wasn’t a live fire exercise, it was an international navy day in India, where the public could go on board ships from other countries - all ships were required to have no ammunition and were inspected by Indian authorities prior to being allowed to dock in India🤨

This is completely off the mark. IRIS Dena was reported to have been equipped with SAMs & ASCMs as well as guns. To hazard an American surface ship (or aircraft) by approaching to attempt a capture would be operational malpractice when a near-zero-risk submarine option exists.
Tom Shugart tweet media
Tom Nichols@RadioFreeTom

The people cheering the submarine attack on the IRIS Dena seem to forget that the U.S. Navy has surface vessels that could have captured the ship, and held the crew (or allowed them to defect). But apparently, it was important to prove that the Navy can still torpedo a frigate.

@LeslieBrow58567 @tshugart3 Unarmed? Those weapons systems were still on the ship. One does not send a warship to live fire exercises unarmed. Sorry but you’re uniformed, naive or just sucked in by the internet misinformation.

@tshugart3 The IRIS Dena was unarmed, it sat for 11 hours begging Sri Lanka to allow them to take port and be interned for the war as per the Geneva Conventions, the U.S. instructed Sri Lanka to keep them out while the U.S. submarine came to sink them - you know “sometimes more fun to sink”

@tshugart3 @rothschildmd That’s not enough $$$ for ice cream machines! IIRC, in the early 80’s it was surf and turf on halfway night. Steaks were weekly. ??? Memory is hazy after over 40 years.

@rothschildmd Yes, when I was in the submarine force on Sundays underway we had surf & turf. Why was that? Because once a week we got to have a somewhat nicer meal as a reward for SPENDING YEARS OF OUR LIVES UNDERWATER so that people could make stupid points about non-news like this.

@michaelzaharis1 @USN_Submariner Were they qualified to any watch station on the US sub? Unless they were on for the majority of deployment, I can’t think why they would be. If you’re not qualified then off to the racks or the crew’s mess.

@USN_Submariner I’m certainly not trying to editorialize, but it does seem that, even in more benign circumstances, the USN would have to plan on how they would operate with Australian crew on board in circumstances where the Australian government may not support that course of action.

This should shock no one who’s served on a submarine. Non-essential personnel are always sent to their racks during any rigging for quiet operations. Being in an off watch section on a boomer rigged for ultra quiet for “reasons”, I got some awesome rack time 😴

Exclusive: Australians serving on a US submarine which sunk an Iranian warship last week were ordered to their sleeping quarters while the operation to fire torpedoes at the enemy target was underway thenightly.com.au/politics/how-a…

@nataschadea @RossBrian30643 @RadioFreeTom Plus, do we know when the Sri Lankan coast guard was alerted of a rescue? If the US sub heard that call, they are not required to respond further (see previous.)

@nataschadea @RossBrian30643 @RadioFreeTom I suggest you might actually read the treaties to the end instead of skipping a major section that indicates that a ship is not required to endanger itself. A sub on the surface in the time of war is well-endangered.

@RossBrian30643 @nataschadea @RadioFreeTom None of that is particularly relevant to the claim of a war crime. But the treaties themselves tell the tale about ship endangerment when deciding to rescue survivors.
