1/ 🗞️ Some personal news! After an incredible year at @NHSBT (NHSBT), I’m heading to the @DHSCgovuk (DHSC) on secondment as Director of Transformation Communications and Engagement.

The North East again leading the news for its pioneering science. 8 healthy babies born (another on the way) using DNA from 3 people: breaking the devastating chain of mitochondrial disease. We're proud to announce that our work to reduce transmission of mitochondrial DNA disease through mitochondrial donation IVF treatment has now seen eight healthy babies born. Find out more: bit.ly/4eQs2sM

The authors of a new Brief Report describe a new pathway, including mitochondrial donation, that was established to provide reproductive choices for women with mitochondrial disease. They also describe genetic and clinical outcomes in some children. Read the report: nej.md/466FQgw

I'm delighted that Jim Mackey has agreed to step up to provide new leadership for a new era. The next few months will be pivotal moments on the road to NHS reform. Jim knows the NHS inside out, can see how it needs to change, and will work with the speed and urgency we need.

🎹 🎵⭐️ We are delighted that for the foreseeable future we will be looking after this wonderful grand piano in St Luke’s Chapel at the RVI. We warmly welcome any musicians to pop by anytime, have a play and fill our beautiful chapel with beautiful music. 🎵

You need to get your signage fixed in A & E at the RVI. It's confusing ,I have had quite a few complaints about it. People go to the window in front of the arrow, but they need to be behind the screen!! @NewcastleHosps
