The rightwing bubble is one of the most statistically illiterate districts in the discourse when it comes to immigration. Here are a few of the things they don't seem to know: (1) Indian H-1Bs are only a tiny percentage of the total legal immigrant population in the US (about 1 to 2%). (2) Just because a group might suck in Europe (e.g., Pakistanis, Lebanese, Turks), doesn't mean they suck here in the US. (All of those groups I named outperform whites on income and education here in the US). (3) Legal immigrants (including from many nations in the developing world) drive innovation and tech company creation here in the US at a higher rate than do native-born Americans. (4) While Indian immigrants display more in-group hiring bias than native-born whites, the amount of this bias is only average among immigrant groups.

By the 1930s many Western intellectuals reluctantly realised that classical Marxism had failed and the proletariat wasn’t revolting. But then a group of exiled German Marxists led by Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno, Erich Fromm and Herbert Marcuse decided to change the battlefield. Instead of economics, they targeted the “cultural superstructure”: family, religion, tradition, sexual norms and the very idea of objective truth. Their weapon was Critical Theory - a relentless campaign of negative criticism designed to portray every Western institution as inherently oppressive and capitalism as not just economically flawed, but psychologically and morally corrupt. Marcuse gave the strategy its most powerful tactical manual in his 1965 essay “Repressive Tolerance”: true liberation, he argued, required “liberating tolerance” - tolerance only for progressive ideas and outright intolerance for conservative or “regressive” ones. Free speech, in other words, was only legitimate when it served the revolution. The intellectual poison of the Frankfurt School was extraordinarily influential and as its graduates and intellectual heirs colonised universities, media, NGOs and corporate HR departments, Critical Theory evolved into today’s identity politics, DEI mandates and cancel culture - a cultural Marxism that attacks the individual in the name of group grievance. What began with a small circle of German émigrés in the 1930s now shapes the moral vocabulary of much of the Western elite. The result has been a softer, more pervasive authoritarianism: the dictatorship of the politically correct.

I should add also, that such reasoned and legitimate criticism of Ben-Gvir underscores that indeed it is possible to criticize Israeli government actions, or the actions of a certain minister, even forcefully so, without being antisemitic. Just be reasonable. Don't demonize an entire people, don't deny Israel’s right to exist (or defend itself), and don't hold Jews collectively responsible.
Arsen Ostrovsky@Ostrov_A

🔈 Our comments condemning the reprehensible actions of Itamar Ben-Gvir: “The @AIJAC_Update unequivocally condemns the appalling, unacceptable and inflammatory conduct of Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir in taunting activists from the Gaza flotilla. Such behaviour is irresponsible and inexcusable, serving no constructive purpose and only undermines Israel’s legitimate legal and security rights in stopping this flotilla. Detainees simply should not be treated this way, and the international community has the right to expect far better from an Israeli minister. Importantly, Ben-Gvir’s disgraceful actions were swiftly and publicly condemned by Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, multiple high-ranking Israeli officials and many others across Israel, underscoring that his outrageous conduct does not reflect the position of the Israeli Government or the broader values and norms of Israeli society. At the same time, we must underscore Israel was fully justified, both legally and operationally, in intercepting vessels attempting to breach the naval blockade. The legality of Israel’s actions, and its right to stop such boats in international waters when they have a declared intent to breach Israel’s legal blockade, has been repeatedly affirmed under international law, including in the UN’s 2011 Palmer Report. Everyone involved in this flotilla knew full well they would almost certainly be intercepted, briefly detained and deported, as has occurred with numerous previous flotillas. The fact is, this latest flotilla was not a genuine humanitarian mission, but a dangerous and provocative political and media stunt. No previous flotillas have carried any meaningful aid for Gaza, and organisers have consistently rejected opportunities to transfer aid through Israel or established international mechanisms. Reports also indicate this flotilla was linked to the Hamas-affiliated Turkish group IHH, which Israel designates as a terrorist organisation and which played a central role in the violent 2010 Mavi Marmara incident. Meanwhile, hundreds of truckloads of humanitarian aid continue to enter Gaza through established channels every day.” Dr Colin Rubenstein, Executive Director, AIJAC

I grew up in a council house in Cumbria. Their purpose was to stabilise the lives of a working class which up until then had been dependent on the whims of private landlords. But in the 1970s a change was made to the law which made it a statutory obligation to house not the traditional working family, but those deemed to be in most immediate need of housing. It is this law which explains why an immigrant who comes here illegally and may end up homeless is often put to the front of the queue for housing, even before local people. As with everything, there are specific legal reasons for the dilemma we’re in. We don’t need to change our culture, we simply need to change the law.

@IRowbottom58153 @danny__kruger @AllisonPearson Heavily debatable. After staff cuts, X/Twitter experienced repeated outages, reduced mod capacity, advertiser losses, product instability, and legal disputes. They survived partly because remaining staff worked extreme hours and because some essential workers were later rehired.

Tomorrow the PCS civil servants’ union is debating a motion to ‘counter a hostile Reform government’ with ‘sustained industrial action’: they are planning to go on strike if we win. This is Reform’s response. Any civil servant who seeks to undermine ministerial authority and the impartiality of the Civil Service through unlawful strike action will no longer have a job to return to. The Civil Service exists to implement the will of the government of the day. Its staff must do what duly-elected ministers ask them to do, within the law - or leave. By publicly confirming the reason for future industrial action as opposition to a specific ‘hostile’ government, the PCS have ensured their strikes cannot be considered a ‘trade dispute’ and would be unprotected and unlawful. Under section 12.1.21 of the CSMC, no appeals to the Civil Service Appeal Board will be possible in this situation. As the Shadow Home Secretary already set out, pension entitlements and any entitlement to redundancy pay may also be lost. Those who do choose to strike because, like the PCS, they disagree with the democratic decision of the British people are not only taking part in unlawful industrial action but are also in breach of the Terms & Conditions of their employment, specifically section 4.1.3 (b) of the Civil Service Management Code (CSMC): “civil servants must not take part in any political or public activity which compromises, or might be seen to compromise, their impartial service to the Government of the day or any future Government”. The fact is under a Reform UK government the Civil Service will be a much better workplace than it is today. Our plans will deliver a smaller and more highly skilled Civil Service where good work is rewarded and officials are able to make a real difference to people’s lives. A union that prioritised its own members would recognise that our agenda will be the most pro-worker in recent political history. We’re happy to work with any fair-minded trade union to develop policies to support workers. But, if the PCS don’t wish to engage reasonably they should know that we will turn their anti-democratic motion into a resounding win for a Reform UK government, the taxpayer, and the British people.

A Congolese man died in Dublin on Friday after he was restrained by several security guards in an alleged shoplifting incident – prompting widespread anger and calls for justice. Video of the incident showed several guards on top of Yves Sakila, 35, in Dublin city centre as he cried out in distress. At one point, a guard appears to kneel on his head or neck. He later appears to become unresponsive. Police are investigating. The footage has prompted comparisons with the 2020 killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Local community members held a vigil on Tuesday, chanting “justice for Yves”. The Irish Council for Civil Liberties is demanding that the death be “swiftly, thoroughly and transparently investigated”.

I thought Ramzy Baroud proudly telling the world that his cousin was a commander in the al-Qassam Brigades and a suicide bomber during the war was wild. In his new book, Ramzy also openly and proudly discusses, among many other things, how Ehab, his son Abdularahman, and Baha’ al-Din al-Badrasawi (Ehab’s nephew) all took part in the October 7 massacre!!!!! 😳 I haven’t read the entire book yet, I’ve only skimmed through a few pages so far, and WOW. That’s all I can say about it!

🧵This is just wild! 😳Ramzy Baroud, editor-in-chief of US based 501(c)(3) The Palestine Chronicle, just casually told the world that his dead cousin, Ehab Al-Badrasawi, was the head of the northern command of Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigades, how his cousin played a key role in the Shati camp battle during the war, and how he eventually blew himself up, as well as his sons later on.
