Seed system value chain players such as @SeedCoZimbabwe then contract smallholder farmers as outgrowers of sugar beans. The BRIDGE project is implemented by @mdtczw in partnership with Cesvi and funded by @euinzim.

The BRIDGE project enhanced the capacities of various sugar beans value chain players on how to develop and operate efficiently this resultantly creates resilient value chains.

Domestic and regional markets in Africa have seen impressive growth in recent years with increasing demand for high value crops, and international traders are increasingly interested in sourcing from Africa. @libertymurwira @george_mapope @mdtczw @euinzim

In Mwenezi district, alternatives spices are also germinating well with fenugreek germinating earlier than all and coriander taking 10-14 days to germinate. Spices under production cover 2.7ha (1.3ha by a private farmer, 0.7ha and 0.6ha in Chizumba and Murove Irrigation Schemes).

The REOPENS project has introduced high value crops for smallholder farmers to produce for export. This includes spices such as cumin, coriander, fenugreek & fennel. The spices planted in Beitbridge District have reached vegetative stage.

These disaster risk reduction committees envision to offset existing inadequacies in responses to disasters and community actions prior to, during and after disasters.

The trainings enhance skills, knowledge and confidence of the disaster risk reduction committees and enable institutionalization of these structures at ward and district level.

The purpose of the visit was for smallholder farmers to learn harvesting and bailing of paprika under commercial production. They also sought understanding of how joint ventures operate at the level of irrigation schemes.

The project, with support from @euinzim, facilitated an exposure visit to Moza Irrigation Scheme in Bulilima District. 10 Farmers (5M/5F) and extension staff from Beitbridge and Mwenezi Districts toured the scheme.
