In Mwenezi district, alternatives spices are also germinating well with fenugreek germinating earlier than all and coriander taking 10-14 days to germinate. Spices under production cover 2.7ha (1.3ha by a private farmer, 0.7ha and 0.6ha in Chizumba and Murove Irrigation Schemes).

The REOPENS project has introduced high value crops for smallholder farmers to produce for export. This includes spices such as cumin, coriander, fenugreek & fennel. The spices planted in Beitbridge District have reached vegetative stage.
