I bet this is exactly what it looked like.

"Free will" is a nonsense term in theology. It's like a joker's wild card in cards. It means whatever the speaker wants it to mean at the moment, and it can shift even mid-conversation. We'd do better to drop it entirely and split the discussion into agency and the works/authorship of the heart. Agency? Yes, scripture affirms it. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Our choices reveal and flow from the heart God has given us, and they carry real consequences. But the works of the heart (creating, calling, softening, opening, purifying, sealing, sanctifying)? None are ours. Which of these do you claim as your doing apart from God's prior work? If any, you're claiming co-high-priest status with our only High Priest. "Free will offering" in Exodus means from the heart, not forced ritual. It says nothing about self-authoring that heart. Scripture never grants us "free will." It shows agency flowing from a heart authored by God. Claiming self-authorship for love or goodness is the old lie. True liberty comes after regeneration: where the Spirit is, there is liberty. Retire the fuzzy and unscriptural definition. Communicate precisely: we have agency, but God alone authors the heart.
