“He will be a free agent on July 1.”
So would appear Stamkos is going to market Monday unless something changes in Tampa’s position. Will have more in a piece today in @TheAthletic

the #Bolts GM, Julien BriseBois, spoke to the media over Zoom this morning and the first question he was asked focused on the future of the #Bolts captain, Steven Stamkos: "As we stand here right now, we haven't been able to reach an agreement yet. I don't know if we will be able to reach an agreement but we met with Steven's agent again yesterday and both sides are still interested in getting a deal done but we have not been able to agree to terms that are satisfactory for both sides. I think, at this time, it's probably best if I leave my comments to that for the time being."

@DarkoStateNews I'm not convinced he wants to stay. And how much would you have to pay him? It was hard to watch him at times getting overpowered by bigger / faster players. No resistance defensively which is a huge hole,team defense. Definitely needs the right players around him to compensate

Even with limitations, the guy added a much needed element to the team. And he’s a legend who wants to be there.

I don’t understand Steve Yzerman’s unwillingness to offer 2 years to Patrick Kane.
I would offer 3 if I had to.
But 2 years can get it done, and the Red Wings won’t do it?
For a guy who wants to be here and scored at a 77-point full-season pace in 50 games last season?

REPORT: It’s not looking good for a Patrick Kane reunion in Detroit. The former Hart Trophy winner wants to return on a multi-year deal. Thus far, the Red Wings have been unwilling to go beyond 1 year. Kane, 35, had 47 points in 50 games for Detroit last season.

I don't think Yzerman understood the value of Walman as a beloved player to the fans.
There is more to a team member than his stats.
The fans love him like a brother, and Walman also went out of his way to contribute to the community.
Most of us are grieving the loss.

@KeithGave Chill man. I never once was being impatient. And no matter the forthcoming move, it remains shocking Yzerman needed to include a 2nd to move a reasonable contract, competent player, and popular player who invested in the community. It’s mismanagement, plain and simple.

I know of no players more proud to wear the Red Wings sweater than Slava Kozlov, or his nephew Vlad Namestnikov. Both popolar among fans. Both were traded away. Trades are a big part of sports, and no one is sacred during a rebuild. Fans want it both ways. Impossible.

To add.. I wouldn’t oppose Guentzel coming to Detroit. We can use anybody that can score at this point but the wings need to find a way to get bigger on F.

@RedWingDiehards Keep in mind, Walman has a 10 team no trade clause, a cap hit of 3.4m for the next two years, is meh, and a buy out would be 1.1m a year for the next 4 years. Big picture the deals make sense

Walman trade really doesn’t make a lot of sense. Obviously SJ wanted a second rounder to take him, hence the NSH trade earlier, and Yzerman clearly didn’t want to be “2nd round pick-less” this year. Kind of odd that Walman gets you legitimately nothing in return though, from literally the worst team in the league no less…
Clearly a bigger picture deal, clearing out room on defense and dollars. Just a puzzling route.

He led the Wings on a death march for a near decade with disaster signings/trades/draft picks. Delayed a rebuild and left them with nothing. Just napalmed the team
