We are excited to share our latest work, in which we used human PSCs to build human “biological pacemaker” organoids that model the structure and function of the sinoatrial node. This provides a new platform to study pacemaker development, disease mechanisms and drug testing.

We also built an Shinyapp interface that allows everyone to access our single cell and spatial datasets easily: wuesi.medizin.uni-wuerzburg.de/cardiac_spatio… We envision our datasets will serve as a resource will provide insights for the cardiac and regeneration/fibrosis fields in the future!

This is effectively a cure for type 1 diabetes. Autologous, (chemically) reprogrammed iPSCs were engineered from a patient's fat cells and injected back into her stomach. After ~2.5 months, she no longer needed insulin and now enjoys ice cream + candy like a normal person.
