The UK is an essential partner for the EU, sharing common values. The Dialogue underlined the 🇪🇺 and the 🇬🇧’s commitment to strengthen cooperation on security and defence.

Under our Security and Defence Partnership, we are enhancing our cooperation in peace, security and defence matters of common interest, incl. defence cooperation, crisis management, maritime security, cyber/hybrid threats.

The 1st EU-UK Security and Defence Dialogue took place in Brussels today - to take stock of progress under the 🇪🇺🇬🇧 Security and Defence Partnership, concluded in May 2025 as a main deliverable of the 1st EU-UK Summit.

Very good talk with @TaherSonni on Libya's security. I recalled that @EUNAVFOR_MED is the only actor implementing the UN arms embargo on #Libya in the high seas, in full transparency and impartiality. We will keep increasing our cooperation to the benefit of the Libyan people.

Timely and important talks on key crisis contexts in the #MiddleEast, #Africa and #Ukraine. We discussed prospects about #UN80, and took new steps for the collaboration between 🇪🇺#CSDP missions and operations and 🇺🇳#peacekeeping operations and special political missions.

I was very pleased to co-chair the 1st #EU-#UN Strategic Committee on Peace and Security with @DicarloRosemary and @Lacroix_UN, joined by @BilleHermann. Against increasing armed conflicts and threats, the 🇪🇺-🇺🇳partnership is even more essential for effective multilateralism.

Today, I welcomed the inaugural EU–UN Strategic Committee on Peace & Security at UNHQ. We reaffirmed support for the @UN Charter and a rules-based international order, and discussed the future of peace operations, #WomenPeaceSecurity, climate & security, and conflict prevention.

On 18 February, the EU and Nigeria held their first Peace, Security and Defence Dialogue, chaired by @CharlesFriesEU and @NuhuRibadu. Stronger cooperation, deeper commitment and sustained dialogue to address our shared security challenges. Key outcomes: link.europa.eu/9YgBf8

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister @AymanSafadi received @CharlesFriesEU to discuss a common approach to train the Palestinian Civil Police for Gaza, security in the Middle East and EU assistance to @ArmedForcesJO. The EU and Jordan are strategic partners of choice.

Excellent discussion with H.E. Mazini Al-Farrayeh, #Jordan's Minister of Interior. The EU and Jordan have a deep experience building police forces capacities. We will join hands to assist partners in the region. The EU will remain committed to 🇯🇴border and internal security.

A concrete sign of 🇪🇺support to #Jordan’s defence capabilities. Pleased to observe the #EPF-funded training to @ArmedForcesJO on imagery and surveillance linked to the delivery of EU drones and equipment. Congratulations to the trainees and trainers for their active engagement!

Always pleased to meet @Lacroix_UN -right after the #UN80 anniversary. This fall we agreed new peace and security priorities to steer our 🇪🇺-🇺🇳 partnership until 2028. We can do a lot to strengthen #Lebanon's security, end the conflict in East #DRC and cooperate on major crises.

I met with @CharlesFriesEU, Deputy Secretary General for Peace, Security, and Defence at the EEAS, the @EUAmbLebanon, Sandra De Waele, and an accompanying EU delegation. Our discussions focused on ways to strengthen the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces so that they can fully carry out their duties under UNSCR 1701 and completing their deployment in the South in implementing the plan to ensure that all arms remain under the authority of the state, and maintaining security and stability across Lebanese territory. I underlined the importance of continuing support for LAF, which will shoulder significant responsibilities, especially in the period following the conclusion of UNIFIL’s mandate at the end of 2026. I also urged the EU to press Israel to end its daily aggressions against Lebanon, to withdraw unconditionally from all occupied territories, and to release the detainees. Moreover, I reaffirmed that the Lebanese government remains firmly committed to the reform path it embarked upon since its formation, a path that responds first and foremost to the will of the Lebanese people, before being an international requirement. Mr. Fries affirmed that the EU will continue to support Lebanon and its armed forces. He welcomed the key reforms undertaken by the Lebanese government and reiterated the EU’s support for Lebanon’s position on the issue of Syrian displacement and the need for the return of the displaced, provided that such a return is consistent with international humanitarian law. @EUinLebanon
