@plano_dancer @GenStilicho I do not believe that the number of red dots in Wales adds up to 600. Nor do I believe that the density of Mediæval fortifications in France is anything like that high.

Looking at this map, you can see how much more centralized England was than the continent. The precocious modernity of the English state helps explain how it fought the Hundred Years War so effectively for so long despite France having four times the wealth and population.

@CJ_Haslett @NoContextBrits This isn’t fully true as Britain has regional many accents like the Brummie accent which gets its roots from the Anglo Saxon era. The northern accents like Yorkshire and Geordie are hundreds of years old too.
