Excited to share our new work is out in @CircRes ! We show, for the first time, that intermembrane space (IMS) calcium in the mitochondria of cardiac myocytes does not just follow cytosolic calcium! We demonstrate that calcium in the IMS is significant; RyR2 hyperactivity drives mitochondrial structural/ functional damage in a cardiac disease model through changes in calcium in this space.
