TIPS: Try to avoid making assumption about internet access when writing #rstats code. Some R envs don't have internet. If internet is needed, give informative errors & gather internet calls early in code. Getting download errors hours/days into processing is no fun.

It's been a rare privilege to have Ruby, Python, MATLAB, and R developers all working symbiotically together on a project of interest (i.e. @ApacheArrow) but I hope we see a lot more of this going forward

In case I haven’t made it clear. I am a person who lives in recovery from a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. I am a person who has been locked up involuntarily through a process called “civil commitment.” That happened in the fall of my first 1L year at @Harvard_Law (thread)

@DrJWolfson Not really innovative, but I’ve been pushing for a conversation here as to whether we are at the point where computational skills should be as important or more important than theoretical skills when assessing candidates and programs

I am pretty critical of deep learning in general. Simultaneously, I invest tons of work into deep learning. I don't intend to dwell on its limitations and leave it at that. I want to overcome them. I *am* a deep learning fan.

At the end of the day, you should be the person you needed ten years ago.

I've been reading a lot of old AI papers lately -- ranging from 1950 to 2010. It's interesting how contemporary a lot of these still feel to this day. The fundamental questions are still the same, and we still don't have any solid answers.
