@RickBoyd1171 @DigitalDaisyX You asked for the excuses used to keep driving an ICE vehicle. My answer is I don't need a new vehicle, and even if I did, an EV wouldn't suit my needs.

@ChiefAcorn @DigitalDaisyX It only makes sense when comparing the overall cost of buying a new gas vs. electric vehicle. You could never "make up the cost" of buying a new gas car to just maintaining your truck.

Costco lines can be draining. Once you switch to electric, gas lines become a thing of the past. Just plug in at home and wake up to a full charge. $TSLA

For spring break my 16 year old is camping in the mountains with his friends. Some of the family are acting like I basically fed him to a bear. Fellow parents, would you let your generally very responsible and capable kid camp without adults?

@RickBoyd1171 @DigitalDaisyX I own my truck outright and it does everything I ask of it. I grew up working on vehicles, so any issues it has, I can fix. I did the math: to make up the cost of buying a base M3, it takes over 200k miles. Or 150k miles and I replace both engine and transmission.

@DigitalDaisyX I would love to understand the mental block that causes people to use any excuse they've ever heard so they can keep driveing with less hp and keep wasting 3x the money on gas, oil changes and brakes. It's actually insanity.

@DigitalDaisyX Considering I have not had to wait in line for gas in over a decade, this is just another manufactured issue on the subject. Can you EV influencers get some more talking points? Can you ICE people get some more talking points? Can we just let people choose what is best for them?

@Uniparty2001 @LamarMK Sir, you are commenting on an EV influencer's post. Most don't care what you want or what's best for you. They just want everyone to buy a Tesla.

Here is your proof that you need to buy a Cybertruck. From 0 to 100% it would cost me $25 at a Tesla Supercharger. A Ford F-150 is costing people upwards of $140 to fill up with gas. At home it's even cheaper, under $15 for a full charge. And no it does not take 30 hours. You can charge for 15 to 30 minutes and get back a solid amount of range or stay for an hour and full charge. When I make statements I have the receipts to back them up. This is a big truck with a huge battery. The Model 3 and Model Y cost way less to charge and operate. Go buy a Tesla. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Not having to buy gas has saved me a lot of money. How much are you spending on gas right now?

Many people are scared to get a Tesla because they think they need to spend $5000 or more to install a charger at home. No you don't. I charge my Tesla using a regular 240v outlet in my garage. Same outlet as a dryer. Your local electrician can install one for under $500. Your new Tesla already comes with a mobile connector that plugs right into it. If you want a Tesla Wall Connector, that's $450 and about $500 to install. Get home, plug it in, and by the time you finish making dinner it's fully charged. Charging at home can cost you under $3 a day. No more spending $60 a week on gas. The savings of driving an EV are HUGE and it starts on day one. What's stopping you from making the switch?

@scifi_techph @LamarMK I paid $80 to fill up my truck yesterday. I'm going to drive 450-500 miles before I fill up again in about 3 weeks. How many miles can you go on that $15? Does the savings vs gas cover the car note, the higher insurance, and extra fees for EVs by the state?

@LamarMK I tell people this constantly. $15 versus $140 destroys the FUD. Your garage is the new gas station. Fossil fuels are obsolete.

@LamarMK Irrelevant. My truck is paid off. I can't charge at home. EVs are more expensive to insure in my state, and there are extra registration fees for them. Further, I tow several times per year. A CT cannot go 200 miles on a charge while towing.

@WatchJRGo1198 @PaulMeowMeow The 6 month rule was to prevent those with means from abusing the program. The intention was to help low income people get into newer and safer vehicles, not pad the wallets of the wealthy.

@PaulMeowMeow Yes and I spent hours doing math on how I could immediately extract all that value but registration ate it back up, like I said the banks and government profited the most. It could’ve and should’ve been a better arb opportunity for me to go get thousands of dollars from junk cars

There are literally millions of cars littering the United States that deserve to be destroyed, cash for clunkers was just that, an amazing program that got trash off our streets. The biggest downside was having to own those cars for 6 months prior, it would’ve been the greatest arbitrage opportunity of all time. I remember when it dropped, and cross referencing the list to Craigslist and finding hundreds of cars I could’ve sold to the government for $2,000 over what the owner was asking. Every single example was clapped and those people (overwhelming low income) suddenly had gold in their hands. Was it a handout, sure… did it help the auto industry and thusly the country? Probably. (If anything it’s more of a wealth transfer to the banks as all car transactions are) All I know is the only thing I’ll ever be upset about was them gatekeeping the arb with the ownership time requirement. Honestly they should run it again but for salvage title cars only since the number of them on the road is growing exponentially.

@WatchJRGo1198 It unfortunately also removed the cheaper vehicles for low income people. They lost the market for transportation as what was left were much more expensive vehicles. Not having to own them for 6 months would allow wealthy people to scrounge them all up and make a profit.

@TeslaPatriot @VayaConDonos @FirePlayedMe @Cluster_6 @LVREChronicles I don't have a problem with battery powered lawn equipment. My issue is that most residential machines eat batteries. At one point I had 9 batteries, seven 2ah and two 5ah. Only 2 of the 2ah still work after 5 years. At $130/2ah and $250/5ah, that's not going to do it for me.

There's a contractor at my house today and he's driving an EV. Dude parks at the end of my driveway and runs an extension cord from an external outlet on my house and he's been charging his car this whole time. Am I wrong that this is bothering me?

@McJohnnymac @DawnVoyager @TechOperator Further, I have a paid off vehicle, live in an apartment without any charging stations, have a 20mi. round trip commute, and travel towing a trailer several times per year. There are no EVs that would make sense for me.

@McJohnnymac @DawnVoyager @TechOperator Oh look, a wild Tesla clown appeared. Some people enjoy driving. Even commuting, the act of driving releases some dopamine. Getting chauffeured around by a robot doesn't give my brain something to occupy itself with, so it would allow me to fret over my stressors.

@Floridaman35154 @WifiMoneyPlant Were you at an AutoNation? That sounds like how they worked. We negotiated a deal on the sales floor. Then renegotiated in finance. The sales manager would always leave room in the deal for the finance guys to make it look like they were getting a good deal on warranty pkgs.

@ChiefAcorn @WifiMoneyPlant This dealership didn't work like this. We negotiated the front and back end of deals, and worked deals all day. Had product specialists demo'ing and putting customers on car - they earned a flat commission regardless of choice.

Biggest "the kids are fucked" moment I've had recently was buying a car Walked into the dealership, told them what I wanted and said I'd pay up-front. Expected them to be thrilled Instead they were horrified. Spent the next 20 minutes trying to get me to finance it at some absurd rate Got me curious so after I left I read about car sale profit models. Apparently most US dealerships make more financing now than from the cars themselves I was such a boomer I assumed they'd want CASH In reality they want your ETERNAL SLAVERY at 19% APR

@TechOperator @justinhorn No, I am more jealous that an EV doesn't make economical sense for me. Can't charge at home or work. Have a paid off vehicle. Go on numerous trips per year while towing a trailer. Insurance here for EVs is nearly double that for ICE vehicles.

If you tell your Tesla “My ass is cold” by pressing the right scroll wheel on the steering wheel to activate voice commands, it will turn on the driver’s seat heater. No buttons required.
Ian Fisher@ChiefAcorn

@DawnVoyager @TechOperator I can reach over and turn the knobs to adjust my climate control without taking my eyes off the road. I don't want a ton of buttons, but I do want them for things I use frequently while in motion. What if they put your turn signals... wait, NVM. EV owners are NEO-BMW owners.

@Hawksbythesea @WifiMoneyPlant My grandma did that. Came in with cash, they wanted her to finance, she didn't want to and left. The called her the next day, offered her 0% credit unseen, with the guarantee of no prepayment penalty, lifetime oil changes and lifetime bumper to bumper warranty.

@WifiMoneyPlant I came in preapproved with a better rate than what they offered in-house. and the dealership still insisted on financing me at a lower rate than what I had for my own bank. I was shocked the lengths they went to to secure a loan from me. I have free oil changes for LIFE….

@WifiMoneyPlant Dealership I worked at -- the sales department lost $1.5k every car sold for listed value (dealership/owner still made money). Sales had to sell aftermarket product / finance / lease / or hold on trade to even get in the green, which is where the commissions started ramping up.
