@VideoGameHstry It was horrible. They expected you to send the games back in bright orange envelopes that said GAME on them. Then they blamed customers for these vanishing in the mail, even though the post office had a record of processing them and everything. Amazingly stupid company.

@CMCanidae 64 is genuinely a great and fun game, especially if you get into it enough to try and get the best medals on each stage. Adventures is good if you go in knowing it won't be like 64, and you like Zelda.

@peterrhague @quasistable Of course some specifics are missing, and most of those days are too fuzzy to recall clearly, but the moments and days that did matter most are seared into me. But I do think this varies between people. Some hang onto the past more, others try to forget, or don't care very much.

My uncle picking me up by the legs and spinning me around in the back yard that one day, building my first lego set my mother got me while strapped into a carseat on the way home, the 1st VCR my family got, etc.

@ChrisRGun @NocontextRvB I knew 343 wasn't right for the job when I couldn't squeeze a ghost into an area that was meant for foot travel. They actually made invisible barriers for vehicles. Half the fun of Halo 1-3's campaign was trying to go places you weren't supposed to, with things you shouldn't have

@NocontextRvB Couldn't get into the campaign, turned that off within the 1st hour. Multiplayer was fun, had a much better netcode than 2 and 3. Starting with a battle rifle was also a very welcome change over that spray-and-pray assault rifle.

@sir_top_and_hat Absolutely not, made that mistake as a child and my NES/SNES/N64 games suffered for it, at least the ones in the front of the shelf. Old Nintendo games take sunlight about as well as a vampire.

@The_Top_Loader Got a launch one, and honestly I was disappointed that night. To be fair, it was more a game thing. The only 2 games that walmart had were Luigi's Mansion and Rogue Leader. I chose the star wars game, but it just didn't land for me. Took a bit before the GC had a library I liked

I'm going to go ahead and disagree. If you've ever taught an art class, you quickly start to realize that some people just ain't it, not for lack of trying. Sure, you can train nearly anyone with enough effort. But often that effort includes remaking a person entirely.

Most art "talent" is just 10k+ hours of ugly warmup doodles and practice sheets that nobody sees, but potentially artistic individuals would rather doompost "i'm just not creative", "oh I wish I could draw", and doomscroll instead of sitting down for 30 minutes a day and accepting their sketchbook will look and feel like a crime scene for the first two-three years (event less for those who are determined). No one's born with talent, an affinity maybe. But that affinity does nothing if you don't train it.
