There's the IDEAL PRACTICE and the NIGERIAN PRACTICE.
We're Nigerians! Let's not kid ourselves with that Endoscopy bs please. We know how we do things here.
Unfortunately we're in a resource limited setting, so the the practice is not always "Gold Standard" due to certain factors beyond anyone's control. This is why there are alternatives that are good enough and clinically approved from decades of studies to make definitive diagnosis and aid patient care.
Evidence suggests that Helicobacter pylori infection is the major cause and strongest risk factor for Peptic Ulcer disease in Nigeria.
So why waste a patients time and money when there are other affordable tests that can strongly support your suspicion???
But hey, what do I know when it comes to clinical acumen???

@Hafaz_the_1st If you send every patient for upper GI endoscopy, only a few will come back. In low-resource settings where survival itself is a struggle, doctors often have no choice but to treat without endoscopy. Clinical reality does not always match textbook ideals.

The only way to be sure you have an ulcer is for a doctor to take a small camera and check the inside of your stomach. If it's not that, what you're doing is guess work.
First question; How do you know it is ULCER?

A 39 year old is already a prof, meanwhile some persons will enter the university at 19, spend 10 years to get MBBS at 29, internship and NYSC will take another 2 years.
By the time they want to further their career they are already 31, most graduate trainee programs won't take them because of age restrictions so they are left with only residency.
I will keep saying this, longer duration of medical schooling in Nigeria public universities has no single advantage.
