This whole situation is disturbing. A Snapchat page allegedly encouraged people to submit anonymous gossip about residents of Calabar, and those messages were then published for thousands to see. People were accused of cheating, having HIV, prostitution, and other serious allegations without any proof. Families were dragged, marriages were affected, reputations were damaged, and businesses reportedly suffered. But here's where it gets even more disturbing. Instead of allowing the law to take its course, she was reportedly tracked down, beaten by multiple people, forced to record an apology, and only then handed over to the police. How did we get to a point where online defamation is met with mob violence? If someone has broken the law, report them and let the authorities handle it. If someone has defamed you, seek justice through the legal process. Assaulting people and taking the law into your own hands is not justice. Two wrongs don't make a right.

A popular anonymous Snapchat handler in Calabar was reportedly tracked down and picked up today after sharing an anonymous link on her story. According to reports circulating online, she was allegedly assaulted by some people who said anonymous comments had been made about them. It was also reported that a married couple confronted her over posts they believed were about them. After the alleged assault, she was reportedly handed over to the authorities.
