Center-right @EPP has 11 (40%) of the seats in 🇪🇺Council. Those seats represent 25% of EU population. But the EPP has 15 (56%) of the seats in Von der Leyen's new 🇪🇺Commission college🤔 It's amazing how EPP continues to dominate the EU while controlling no large country in it.

Let's get down to brass tacks. Some of these portfolios are important. Others are not. Italy's Fitto, despite getting the meaningless EVP designation, did not get an important portfolio. He got a nonsense one. Here, IMHO, are the meaty portfolios that will be important: Dombrovskis (Latvia): Economy Kallas (Estonia): Foreign Affairs Virkkunen (Finland): Tech McGrath (Ireland): Justice Albuquerque (Portugal): Financial Services Šefčovič (Slovakia): Trade Séjourné (France): Industry Brunner (Austria): Home affairs & migration Ribera (Spain): Clean Transition Jørgensen (Denmark): Energy Hoekstra (Netherlands): Climate Roswall (Sweden): Environment Hansen (Luxembourg): Agriculture Serafin (Poland): Budget The Lisbon Treaty was supposed to reduce the number of commissioners down from the unworkable 27 we're dealing with now, but the small countries (led by Ireland) objected to losing their guaranteed seat. So since 2009 we've been working in a strange tiered system where half the commissioners are forgotten. And this is an importance differentiation that is not actually reflected by the commissioner/VP/EVP title designation.
