Denying health benefits to working people with families is cruel and unlawful. A company owner's religious beliefs do not make it okay. @benhklein and I will fight for our client. apnews.com/article/health…

@DOGGO525 @mattyglesias Wait is that really your response to reading about the murder of two survivors at sea clinging to smoldering wreckage?

@LizHighleyman @cremieuxrecueil What a miracle that we live in a world where the choice is between highly effective therapy and a safe (albeit riskier) cure when indicated. And we are so close to a once-a-year shot for effective prevention.

@cremieuxrecueil It’s actually up to 10 now. They’re getting common enough they don’t always make the news. But stem cell transplants are too risky for HIV+ people w/o cancer given we have highly effective antiretroviral therapy. poz.com/article/two-pe…

We're now up to SEVEN people being cured of HIV after receiving stem cell transplants. These people were being treated for cancer, received bone marrow transplants, and woke up resistant to HIV.

Gays, before reading this, I'm just saying what I see coming. I'm not saying I support or want this to happen. I don't think I have the power to change it so I'm ringing an alarm bell for the few people who care. I don't think the right cares that we are different from the TQ+ crowd. Society is reorienting itself away from the margins. The only thing that gays can and should do, at this point, is just be normal people (a lot of right wing gays already are). If gays insist on inverting gender norms and being theatrical (acting feminine) all the time, it's going to create pushback. I'm not interested in policing your mannerisms but society generally is and will. I'm just trying to avoid that conflict because society isn't going to be as accepting of such behavior. I think it'd be wise to stop bringing up being gay as the first thing about yourself. Or as a qualifier to some other label. You're not a gay man, you're a man. You're not a homocon, you're a conservative. This is how things have always been and just because leftism tried to centralize the margins for the past several decades doesn't mean that was a natural or sustainable structure. I don't volunteer that I'm gay or that I have a husband. If someone asks, I tell them. Also keep in mind that the left has done so much damage that we may lose gay marriage. Depending on how far the left pushes the reactionaries - that'll determine how scorched Earth the right goes on leftist controlled or manipulated institutions, including marriage. It's not that we should be second class citizens, it's that we will be if we keep asserting ourselves into discourse that's hostile to progressive ideas - like gay 'rights'. We have to work on our culture and normalize a bit more if we're going to try and demarginalize the group. Society shouldn't change for us, we should change for society - if we want a place in it. We can choose the closet too. But either way it's going to take time and we're still in the fog of war with the left.

@bimbotheory It led to an interesting conversation with law students about whether it’s okay for queer people to try and censor drag if they are offended by it. Still blown away that the judge articulated it so well.

@bimbotheory Hey look what a GHW Bush appointed appellate judge said about drag a few weeks ago in a First Amendment case out of Texas. (Not related to your point. Just sharing because you made me think of it.)

@A_Newmania @thomaschattwill @elonmusk Uh, Race isn't biological it's a social construct. There's more genetic variation within racial groups than between them. Skin color is real, but racial categories are made up. They're outdated labels that justify inequality, not reflect human reality

BREAKING: Gov. Kelly Ayotte has *vetoed* House Bill 324, a bill to make it easier for parents and guardians to remove "obscene" books and materials from schools. Veto confirmed via Secretary of State's Office. GOP lawmakers will need 2/3 majorities to overturn. #NHPolitics

@jonathanpassey @mattyglesias Idk it sounds like you’re making a judgment about rent policies generally instead of responding to a mayoral candidate’s specific policy proposal. I assumed MY’s point was in response to the specific policy proposal and not admonishing any and all regulation of rent.

@ChrisErchull @mattyglesias I understand the differences. And that they significantly impact outcomes for the landlords and tenants of effected units. But they aren't relevant to *this* argument. More regulation is a bad idea.

@jonathanpassey @mattyglesias And the distinction matters here because rent controlled units are permanently frozen throughout a person’s tenancy, so the mayor’s proposal would have no impact.

@jonathanpassey @mattyglesias There is an immense difference in effect between rent control and rent stabilization in NYC. The difference matters a lot if you live in (or own) either type of unit.

@GScottShand @TylerDinucci covering her face as punishment for some offense. And it calls the question. I think a lot of people on the left to criticize RBG for her general tendency to prioritize the rights of individuals over tribes when it came to sovereignty questions. I don’t think there’s an easy…
