@C3nse If your opinion of a persons, political views hinges solely upon whether or not they adhere to your ideology, you should reserve your judgment for yourself. I’m forever, amazed by veterans that countenance Trumps refusal to transfer power peacefully.

Trump corner rally right outside where I live in Port St Lucie...you can hear the car horns constantly... I'm so glad I live in a state not overrun with leftist shitbags.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

If your vote hinges solely on the access to abortion, you are not a serious person. We have been driven to the brink of WWIII, and you only care about abortion?! First world "problems" are going to destroy it.

This election will decide the temperature on our planet for thousands of years. It will decide if we have a fighting chance to stop the climate crisis or not. AND, voting alone or voting third party won’t save us. A 🧵 .

@ChrisMartzWX You will get no where teaching with Whitehouse. There is something wrong with him. Outside of New England, which is beset by other fools like Whitehouse, he would likely be put in a Mental Institution, not the US Senate--though there is not much difference in the two these days.

Hi there, Senator. 👋 You seem to have taken an interest in science. 🧪 So, I think today provides a good opportunity for you to learn something. 📚 Here are some facts that you didn't consider: ➊ There is 𝒏𝒐 statistically significant correlation between Gulf of Mexico (GoM) sea surface temperature anomaly (SSTA) (i.e., departure from the 30-year average) and incidence of major hurricanes — tropical cyclones (TCs) which attain a maximum sustained wind speed (Vₘₐₓ), ≥111 mph as defined by the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale. The scatterplot below shows GoM major hurricane Vₘₐₓ versus the June-August (JJA) three-month averaged GoM (defined as 20-30°N, 80-100°W) SSTA [relative to the 1991-2020 mean]. I chose JJA SSTA since this serves as ideal initial conditions as we head into the climatological peak of the North Atlantic (NATL) hurricane season, 𝑨𝑵𝑫 because SST is slow to change through radiation fluxes given that water has a high specific heat (i.e., amount of heat, in Joules, required to raise one gram of a substance by 1°C). Between 1900 and 2023, there've been a total of 77 major hurricanes that either formed or tracked into the Gulf. Of that subset extracted from NOAA's HURDAT2 database, 75 formed after June 30th. I excluded both Audrey (1957) and Alma (1966) because they formed during the month of June and don't reflect the bulk of this SSTA data. The data reveal that there is a 2% explained variance between GoM JJA SSTA and GoM major hurricane Vₘₐₓ. That is, the coefficient of determination is a measly 0.02. This indicates that no correlation of statistical significance exists between those variables, and this is because TC kinematics involve a lot more than SST (e.g., a pre-existing wave or disturbance, low deep-layer [200-850 hPa] vertical wind shear, no dry air). SSTs do not make the storm. I extracted the TC data here, 🫳 🔗aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/hurdat/Dat… OR coast.noaa.gov/hurricanes/ I extracted the GoM JJA SSTA data here, 🫳 🔗climexp.knmi.nl/get_index.cgi Please let me know, Senator, if you need me to guide you through the process of setting parameters for your plot(s). ➋ Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions can't 𝑒𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑙𝑦 warm the oceans to fuel developing TCs. Incident infrared radiation (IR) emitted downward by GHGs, the so-called “back-radiation,” is absorbed within the top few micrometers of water in the “thermal skin layer” (TSL). For more reading, I recommend the study Wong and Minnett (2018). Here's a link to that, 🫳 🔗agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/20… To get the water to warm up, the authors substituted clouds for GHGs since the downward radiation flux by GHGs was negligible in terms of heating the TSL. As an experiment, try heating your pool with an infrared lamp. Chances are that's not going to work out well for you, I'm afraid. Increased absorbed solar radiation (ASR) is the only reasonable explanation for the recent and persistent spike in SSTs, particularly in the NATL basin. Why is there increased ASR? Reduced global average cloud cover [albedo] due to decreased sulfur dioxide (SO₂) concentrations in the atmosphere. This is backed by a new study, Yuan et al. (2024). Here's the link to that, Senator 🫳 🔗nature.com/articles/s4324… Give it a little click-sy and happy reading! cc: @SenWhitehouse

Note the excess heat of Gulf waters that spun up Helene and Milton. Fossil fuel emissions add zettajoules of excess heat to oceans annually. This gets worse until we get off fossil fuels.

@MattWalshBlog I wonder how many families that just lost everything in East TN and Western NC would gladly take those high paying jobs at the current rate? They’d rather cripple the entire country for their own selfishness. Modern Day Unions are a stain on our country.

Went to help in the Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area today, and it’s hard to describe - never seen anything like this. Post apocalyptic. It’s so overwhelming you don’t even know how to fathom what recovery looks like, let alone where to start. Going to be a long path to recovery that all levels of stakeholders are going to be needed.

What a ridiculous and uninformed take - “permafrost is bad”. This ignores how people live in the Arctic today and how Arctic ecosystems have functioned since the Pleistocene.
Eric Peterson@purplesuit

@queenofpeat Permafrost is bad, the less we have the better. Most of the currently melting permafrost is a result of the neoglacial starting about 4,000 years ago. Before that we had less permafrost than we do today.
