I live in Finland. I am not going to buy Apple with the local prices. $1000 is only 872 euros. Even the cheapest Apple MacBook Air with M5, 16 Gt RAM and 512 SSD costs 1 259 € or $1 443 USD. That is way too little storage & RAM for any serious work. Anything under 2TB internally is a NO go.
For comparison: My 2020 PC has 64 GB RAM + 16 TB storage. My work laptop also has 64 GB RAM. My newer PC has 128 GB RAM and I plan to put in more 4 TB SSDs (8 TB too expensive now). Apple might be nice, but their pricing here puts it to luxury category. You can twice more if you buy cheap Chinese (Lenovo) instead.

I am vocal about 8GB RAM laptops because I am a game dev. We were also vocal about cut down 10GB RAM in Xbox Series S. Steam Deck is a 4 year old $399 gaming device with 16GB RAM. It's the modern min spec for gaming. I would love to see more games on Macs, but 8GB alienates devs.

This is why I believe in America. Here in Germany, companies would debate for years how expensive and inefficient this is, how this could be solved internally... In the US they spend the money and see.

I love capitalism. I just did a quote for a massive construction company. As I walked through their offices, I found a huge room of blue Fastenal vending machines. They were filled with tools, drill bits, blades, hardhats, etc. Each one had a price on the window. Intrigued, I asked the owner what is the story on these. He mentioned to me that Fastenal comes in and stocks up all the different types of tools and PPE this specific construction company needs. Everything is priced way above Home Depot or Lowe’s prices. The construction company only pays for the tools or items whenever somebody actually “buys” them vs stocking 200 hard hats at once or keeping inventory of miscellaneous tools. This saves the company countless hours of labor since the employee doesn’t have to go to Home Depot or Lowe’s aka travel time, walking around the store, and scrolling on Instagram in the parking lot. Less time shopping for tools = more time working and charging the customer. Owner said no matter how much they spend on the parts in these machines, they save ten fold on labor. Of course the machine also automatically tracks when inventory is low and a guy comes out to fill it back up. Fucking genius. Only in America! 🇺🇸🏃🏻♂️💨🏁

First of all, I think everyone should have healthcare in America, regardless of who you are and what you’re doing. And the idea that there is anyone who is less deserving because of who they are is the problem to begin with.
But that’s what they use to justify this, right? Because they want us to do the work for them. They want us to sort ourselves into the idea of deserving and undeserving, or pointing at our neighbors in terms of deserving and undeserving.
And that smokescreen — that idea — is how they tried to pass a trillion dollars in healthcare cuts across the board for all of us.

According to media reports (Handelsblatt) claiming to have a recording of a meeting between Elon Musk and the workforce at Giga Berlin from Wednesday, Elon Musk stated that if the IG Metall union wins a majority on the works council, there will be no expansion of the factory.
A majority of the IGM Union in the works council would give the Union influence on many decision about the factory and thus undermines the Tesla Management.
I doubt that the Unions will win the election but we'll see.
