"🇨🇳 China strongly rebukes Trump" "I want to put an end to the rumors circulating online that claim China has agreed with the United States not to supply weapons to Iran. Let me make it clear that no such communication has taken place. China has neither confirmed nor denied supplying weapons to Iran. Our security agreements and defense cooperation are sovereign matters that belong to China alone. No foreign country has the right to interfere in China's internal affairs. World leaders should choose their words carefully before speaking. China welcomes President Trump’s decision to de-escalate and open the Strait of Hormuz. We are committed to global peace and protecting regional stability through dialogue." — Guo Jiakun, Spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs

"Apple’s second largest research and development facility in the world, second only to their headquarters in Cupertino, California, is in Israel"
The Grayzone@TheGrayzoneNews

Apple made headlines last week when it basically erased Southern Lebanon from Apple Maps But as @KeiPritsker explains, Apple's ties to Israel are far deeper than most realize In fact, its most recent acquisition in Israel is its second largest buyout of all-time

NEW: Trump says he’s “willing to give up rights and privileges” afforded to citizens for FISA laws, which allow spying on Americans without lawful warrants, because our “military patriots desperately need it.”

The euphoria rape scene is fine as far as depictions of rape go, but either way I’m starting to think that normies and tenderqueers just hate art. They want to turn rape into this illusory fantasy of trauma entirely detached from the violence and brutal reality of it.

Bizarre situation brewing in LA public schools, as reported by WSJ today Teachers and parents say schools regularly run out of cleaning supplies and toilet paper But per-student spending rose from $11.7k to $29.3k since 2014 — about 5x the rate of inflation Notably…. the district doubled spending on outside vendors and digital tools over that time period The superintendent personally received "no-bid emergency authority" to close 72% of those contracts — and nearly 70% went over budget, per WSJ (District spokesperson says increased spending is due to virtual learning, tutoring and rising costs of special ed…)

Following talks between the Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors in DC yesterday, the State Department issued a statement that violates the Iran agreement, which clearly included a ceasefire in Lebanon. Instead, the US said only it can broker a ceasefire between Israel/Lebanon. "The United States affirmed that any agreement to cease hostilities must be reached between the two governments, brokered by the United States, and not through any separate track."

TV viewers might recall the spate of fake Bernies (think Gil Eavis on SUCCESSION) and fake AOCs (such as Victoria Neuman on THE BOYS) on shows a few years back. By my math, we’re less than 12 months away from a buzzy streaming show with a fake Zohran, mark my words.

It bothers me to no end that House is regarded mostly as a “haha wacky Japan” cult comedy when it’s actually an intensely intimate and introspective result of the creator reflecting on surviving nuclear annihilation.
DepressedBergman@DannyDrinksWine

Nobuhiko Ôbayashi explains how he was inspired by his daughter's ideas for making 'House' (1977): "My daughter who at the time was only 11, she loved films. She actually had never seen any Japanese film at the time yet. When I start making a new film, I always ask suggestions from young people because young people have a great future before them. So I asked my 11-year-old daughter’s suggestion. What if I make a commercial film for Toho cinema society, what kind of film should I make in your opinion, I asked her. At the time in the US, a new cinema director, Steven Spielberg, was shooting the film, 'Jaws' (1975). At that time, together with the shark film, there were other films where, for example, there were rats attacking people, there’s different animals attacking people, those were the kind of films that were being screened all over the world. I believed at that time, Toho Production expected to see films where, for example, cute bunnies would eat human beings. So that day, my daughter Chigumi, she was combing her hair looking in the mirror and then she said, what if my image would come out of the mirror to eat me which is a horror. And I thought it was an excellent idea, it is me eating myself. Because war is dark, is eating oneself so I thought I could get to know the image in the mirror, an image that would bring to peace and not to war again. So reflecting in the mirror what is that I can do in my life, and this reflection, this thought, can lead us on the way to peace. So I made a question to my daughter and she said, when she used to exercise at the piano, she thinks that sometimes the piano is actually about to eat her hands when she is playing badly. So, all the seven episodes were actually invented by my daughter, suggested at least by her. I added also my own ideas by inserting a poor woman who had lost her beloved in the war. So 'House' is our cooperation between the generation who has experienced the war and the generation who had never experienced the war." (Nobuhiko Ôbayashi's interview with Andrew Daley, Easternkicks, 2017)

Scott Wiener is now the 3rd candidate to use this line. Elissa Slotkin pulled it on a constituent in a town hall the other day, and Dan Goldman workshopped it at a recent candidate forum. This is a disgusting lie that is actively promoting antisemitic tropes. The implication is that all Jewish Americans support the pro-Israel lobby and therefore, all supporters of pro-Israel PACs must therefore be Jewish by definition. It's also a JStreet talking point. How do I know? Because it is bar for bar, nearly verbatim, what a member of the senior leadership of JStreet said to me in a private conversation last month. When they learned that @TrackAIPAC was on the verge of rolling out our new methodology to track and report totals from lobby donors, this individual asked me: "How do you make sure you're not just tracking Jewish money?" I told this individual the same thing that Track AIPAC has said on the record -- the truth -- that we track and report data from FEC filings, mapping donors who have given to lobby groups pushing policies enabling genocide and ethnic cleansing who are also giving directly to candidates. AIPAC and other lobby groups themselves love to brag that their donors and members include Americans of all identities. We know that to be true. The vast majority of American Zionists are evangelical Christians. That's why CUFI exists. If Scott Wiener, Elissa Slotkin, Dan Goldman, or any other candidate taking money from the Israel lobby would like to understand where the totals we report come from, they're welcome to ask (they can also check their own filings, it's all straight from the FEC). But they don't get to throw up this smokescreen to dodge legitimate questions that constituents have about how much their votes are being influenced by the lobby enabling an ongoing genocide.
Prem Thakker@prem_thakker

Voter asks Scott Wiener, who's running to fill Pelosi's seat, about AIPAC money. He denies taking any: “There are people who are going to list out all my Jewish donors and say that." Per filings he's taken $47K from AIPAC donors, including people who've been in AIPAC leadership.
