Well, I just saw a calf in the pasture. Our lowline was indeed bred to the longhorn. The black cown next to her is a jersey cross from when we got her she had her last may after we got back from the honeymoon. Unfortunately, he is a bull calf.

@JulieLovesFluff @GGunthorp I still think for quality food like that you can charge more of a premium historically food used to be what 40% to 60% of where your income went then it all became cheap slop

That's because processing fees are so high. Ours live in a forested area eating forage so our cuts feed cost by about 30% (they're eating mushrooms, acorns, small critters, plants etc) but processing here went from $1.25/lbs on finished product weight (so about $150/hog) to $2.50/lbs hang weight (about $500/hog) and it's ridiculous, we had to up prices considerably and it sucks for the consumer.

I’m a big fan of local food but I do not believe local foods would be 30-40% cheaper if we fixed food regulation in this country. Poultry already has the equivalent of the Prime Act in the US. Pastured chicken, USDA or exempt, is expensive to process manually.

🚨Scary Statistics🚨 When I tell you small farms & ranches are dying & almost non existent now I'm not lying. Please support local farms before they're gone forever. 🐓🐐🐄✨️

@GGunthorp Processing went from 25% of our cost to 50% when our local processor got bought out and doubled their prices, if it was legal for us to process on farm for public sale we could sell our pork for $3/lbs again and still make a good profit, but it's not.

@ChristineAcFarm @PatrickHeizer Ah video games. Yeah good homeschooling not going to happen with unmitigated access to video games. Video games are a drug. Can’t expect kids to choose learning over serving an addiction. Glad you made it out okay…

@ChristineAcFarm @PatrickHeizer This is how homeschoolers roll. I know a kid never did math in his life then got interested at 13 or 14 and learned the entire elementary and highscool math curriculum in under a year. We just wait until they’re interested. Kid did math for like 3 hours on Sunday by choice. 😂

@PatrickHeizer Screens have a place as they grow. My 11yo got the math bug and has done about 3 grades worth of online math curriculum in the last month.

"Mom what's a womanly shape?" "Ummm, it could mean a few things, we talking sewing or people? Gimme some context." "Today during gym [at co-op] Mr. POS (name changed, not that he deserves it) asked me how old I am because I'm getting a womanly shape to me." Y'all it took all of my self control not to freak out. I told her that was an odd thing for him to say and we'll have Dad ask him what he meant. In a way it is an absolute blessing my husband is in VA right now because I'm pretty sure if he'd heard that conversation he'd be loading a gun to go have a chat before I could've responded. I'm going to tell him tonight when he calls so he can process his anger before he has that conversation. I know I need to have a follow up conversation with her but I'm not exactly sure what to say because I'm highly upset right now, this is bringing up some memories where I wasn't protected as a young girl (she's 13!!) and I'm trying to work through that while doing normal parenting stuff, so any advice is welcome. I feel like throwing up and throwing hands right now. I could murder this man.

I made this little terrarium for these 2 giant jumping spiders i found outside, and I finally put them together, and the big one ate the smaller one. Funny enough, they were both the same kind they had orange on the legs and abdomen. I just found another one but it got away.
