@freganmitts @No5mallf3at Williams portrays Stoner’s mistakes as the deep hurtful things they are, but the end of the book shows pretty clearly that Williams doesn’t hate Stoner, or Edith, or Grace, or even Lomax. They are just hurt people trying to live.

@freganmitts @No5mallf3at Stoner has no specific reason for falling in love with literature, and he doesn’t need one. He just does. It’s what gives him joy in a macabre life, and it makes him feel alive.
The stuff about not seeing stoner work I think is largely irrelevant to what the book is getting at

@freganmitts @No5mallf3at Yes I’ve read the review. I’m not terribly interested in getting into a full debate, but I think the article fundamentally misunderstands what stoner is about and what it’s getting at. “Things just happening” pretty accurately describes most of our lives.
