These things happen on statutory holidays. Bare bones junior staffers working the shift. And when the editor-in-chief saw the headline…. Have pity. Journalists everywhere are wincing and feeling sorry for the kid who wrote that hedder. Happened to me in ‘89. Worst day ever.
NYTimes Communications@NYTimesPR

@sissenberg @nytimes A correction will appear in tomorrow's print edition: "A headline with an article on Friday about President Trump’s threats to leave NATO misstated the full name of the body. It is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, not the North American Treaty Organization."

A few weeks ago I was getting frustrated with doing line analytics in using the traditionally available tools and I set out build something that I felt was better. I wanted a way to visualize roster analytics in real time given many coaches propensity to shuffle lines in a rapid-fire fashion. The tool is simple, move players around and watch the line combination and With-and-Without-You (WOWY) analytics update in near real-time. It allows you to also select defensemen with the forward lines you desire and work through all the permutations of WOWY available for those combinations. I wanted to do it in a clean, easy to use and understand manner. With these principles in mind I set out to create LineBlender, and sought partnerships with two premiere hockey data repositories in PuckPedia and BenchRates, who graciously provided the API data needed to make this application viable. Both organizations have my sincerest gratitude for making this possible. So with that out of the way, It is my honor and privilege to present "LineBlender" an analytics visualizer created in loving memory of Bruce McCurdy, who passed away one year ago today. He would have loved this tool.

@RealLyndaCarter It gets worse as I get older. Twice in the last year I’ve been asked by a 20 something male if I needed someone else present to help make a buying decision. It might be in their sales training

Today, the federal New Democratic Party selected its new leader. It is clear that the direction of the federal party under this new leader, someone who openly cheered for the defeat of the Alberta NDP government, is not in the interests of Alberta. Last year, Alberta’s New Democrats voted overwhelmingly to make membership in the federal party optional. Many thousands of our provincial members, including myself, are not members of the federal party. We are a big tent and welcome the support of people who vote for every federal party. We believe in Alberta and we believe in Canadian energy and the good jobs it creates. We believe in more pipelines and in reducing emissions. We believe in strong public services and a strong jobs-driven economy to help pay for them. This is what we are fighting for every day. Albertans deserve federal leaders who understand the importance of Alberta and our essential role in the federation. Our focus is not on what the federal NDP says or does. Our fight is with Danielle Smith and the separatist UCP. Albertans deserve a better government, and we are here to be that better government.

The older I get, the more I realize intelligence is overrated. Intelligent people are more likely to overthink, overplan, and overanalyze. They hide behind motion that doesn't create progress. They fear the judgment of others if they're proven wrong. The truth is that intelligence is abundant. Courage is not. The people you admire are the ones who had the courage to act. They aren’t more talented than you. They aren’t smarter than you. They just took action when you didn’t. I often wonder how many extraordinary people wasted their entire lives waiting for permission that never came. Permission isn't granted. It's taken. You get to tap yourself in whenever you want. You can just do things. Courage beats intelligence.

Good article on Larsson. Great guy, but Klefbom retired due to chronic shoulder issues. Oilers didn’t cut ties with him. He was placed on LTIR for final years of his deal and received all his money. Larsson didn’t stay in EDM die to his father’s sudden passing and his mother didn’t want to return to EDM where it happened. Which was very understandable.

The University of Alberta does not support campus child care. They have taken multiple strategic steps to destroys its existence on campus. This report highlights just how nonsensical and regressive the U of A is on child care. I am still aghast any of this happened.
MarthaFriendly@_MFriendly

Yes, just about all Canadian universities support campus #cdnchildcare - they play many roles, supporting the university, as well as students/faculty/other employees. See our report on this - bit.ly/4rEUH8V

@dieworkwear @kevinxu It is expensive. A bachelor’s degree is a starting point and it should be used to study a broad base of subjects. Unfortunately we are losing the value of developing critical thinking.

@kevinxu Personally think you should use college as a time to expand your mind and make friends, not maximize your market value. Major in something that you're passionate about.
