The only way to actually destroy the tunnels and eliminate Hamas is to actually control large swaths of the Gaza strip to restrict their freedom of movement. I also don't get why he uses quotes around "ceasefire" when less than 900 people have died in 6 months.

This isn't the "claim" that anyone makes. People post out the fact that Jews created Israel immediately after the British withdrew and left a vacuum, have defended it as a sovereign state ever since, and that all rhetoric about about what "right" 10 million Israelis have to remain there is ultimately accepting the premise that considering their forced removal is not advocating for genocide.

@gynaeceum Det blir rätt underhållande uttalanden för den som vet att ’man’ i de sammanhangen betyder ’gemene man’, ungefär ’medelsvensson’. Jag klarar inte av när folk säger ’tack vare’ om negativa händelser. Det låter sadistiskt. Troligen blandar de ihop engelska och svenska uttryck.

Har ni någon språklig ick? Menar inte typ särskrivningar eller stavfel, utan någon mer nischad. Min är när någon återkommande säger "man" istället för "jag", t.ex: "nu har man semester" eller "nu ska man hem och laga mat". Tycker det låter slött av någon anledning haha.

@PierreMathisson Det som behövs är ju att skolan accepterar F utan att gå i spinn. F är inget konstigt betyg. På min tid fick man 1 om man inte gjorde något i ett ämne och så var det inte mer med det.

Konfronterade elev som valt att skolka från mina senaste lektioner. Fick följande svar: "Jag orkar inte. Jag får väl ta ett F." Det kommer ju bli en fin kedjereaktion som jag till slut kommer att hållas ansvarig för. Och nej, det är inte relationen som brister.

I told a friend that most L.A. girls are glorified escorts. Not in the literal sense but rather that they are optimizing to seek out the highest status activities & experiences. Men are conduits by which they can achieve that. He was skeptical so I told him to do an experiment. Pick a girl who he went out with but ghosted him when he texted after the date. No HR text, no follow up, nothing. Total radio silence from her. At least 3 months must have transpired. Next, send her a text that he’s going to a private all expenses paid party at Nobu Malibu (very fancy sushi restaurant) and that he wants her to come along. I said with 95% certainty that she would respond. Maybe she won’t remember him and will ask who he is but at a minimum she will be curious and text back, despite the ghosting. Sure enough, I was right.

@paddlartomas Var uppenbart från början att det skulle bli så. Vi hade ett tag en regel om att bara disputerade fick sätta betyg, varpå undervisande lärare satte betygen som sen attesterades av en examinator som inte hade någon koll på kursen alls.

Tanken med lärarlegitimationen var att bara behöriga lärare skulle få undervisa och sätta betyg. Nu får vem som helst undervisa och sedan får behöriga lärare sätta sitt namn på de betyg som de obehöriga sätter.

@mattyglesias When this line first emerged it always came as advice to the person with the head. As in, don't let that asshole live rent free in your head. Somewhere along the line the assholes decided to own it.

This is the literalist in me but I never understand these “live rent-free” humblebrags. It’s 100% true that I find David Sirota’s years-long habit of nonstop belligerent lying to be extremely aggravating. Congratulations, I guess? You won at the game of “being an asshole.”

@theistinthought I’m assuming here that you don’t want a car, as it is of course perfectly normal to have a car in a typical walkable neighbourhood (as long as it isn’t a Hummer or something equally ridiculously large).

@theistinthought It’s fascinating to me as a european that you can’t even imagine life without a car. (1) You don’t buy that much food at once. (2) You get it home by a bike wagon or a shopping trolley. Also, in a proper city, the grocery store isn’t far off so it’s easy to walk or bike there.

Question to the ‘walkable city’ advocates who hate cars: If you go to the grocery store and have eight bags (or even four bags) of groceries, how do you get them home? You push around a little cart or something? Sounds bad.

"Go back to Europe." Alright. Let's apply that standard to everyone. Not just Jews. Everyone. Consistently. Right now. A significant portion of Gazans would be heading to Egypt, because that's where many of their families migrated from during the Ottoman era. Many Palestinians would be going back to Syria, Jordan, the Arabian Peninsula, or North Africa, because that's where their surnames, tribes, and family histories actually trace. Americans would be on boats back to England, Ireland, Italy, and Russia. And Jews? Back to Europe. Specifically Germany and Poland. The two countries industrialized the murder of over six million Jews within living memory. Countries that still have mass grave sites that haven't been fully excavated. That's where we're supposed to go? Sure. My family would go straight back to Israel anyway. My father's maternal line traces to 1000 CE there. We were never really gone. Human populations have moved, migrated, been exiled, resettled, and returned for thousands of years. That's history. That's how the world works. But this logic only ever gets applied to one group. Always the same group. So let's stop the claims that this is an argument about justice or land or history. We all know it’s not. Arguments built to apply to exactly one people? Yeah, there’s a name for that.

@lexcroucher I went to the US once and decided to take a walk from the hotel to the city, about two kilometers. Three times americans stopped their cars to ask if I needed help. No one took offence at my walking, just seemed a bit surprised. Let’s not forget that many americans are kind.

i went for a walk down a beautiful street right by my hotel in portland, maine the morning after i last landed in the US and a local guy walking his dog approached me, quizzed me on why i was there and said by rights he should call the cops. because i was walking. down a street.

@DerekPederson3 If beating up kids is fine, then beating up adults is more than fine. After all, fights between adults is more fair. I have no beef with people accepting spanking - as long as they also accept physical violence in the workplace, on the streets, and in house between partners.

Obviously a lot of people don't like this or want to do this, and that's perfectly fine. But the idea that spanking is either ineffective as discipline or harmful over the long term is pretty easily debunked & ideologically motivated "research".

@hostocks1337 @FMannerheim Jag håller med i princip, undervisningen var som sirap eftersom den var anpassad för att passa de som låg under medel i begåvningsnivå, men jag tror du missade ”inte läser på till proven” i tweeten.

@FMannerheim Skolan är så förbaskat långsam skulle jag gå tillbaka i tiden så hade jag nog gjort en större insats än vad jag gjorde då, men lärarna tragglar ju sönder samma saker i evigheter. Jag upplevde hela grundskolan + gymn slöseri på tid. Jag ogillar "alla ska med" attityden.

Vi har en stor grupp barn och unga idag som skolkar, kommer försent, inte har med sig material, inte jobbar på lektionerna, inte gör sina läxor eller läser på till proven. Det spelar ingen roll hur skicklig läraren är. Eleverna gör inte sitt. Hur löser vi detta?

@FMannerheim Det traditionella sättet är att de får underkänt och sedan tar ett lågkvalificerat jobb efter nian. Skolsystemet behöver gå tillbaka till att inrättas efter det faktum att inte alla barn kan eller vill. Vi kan återinföra de relativa betygen på samma gång.

@robprogressive They could be arguing for the state to build. Like how the swedish government funded a million appartments built in a decade. Those do make a profit, however, but only about 3-4%.

“Landlords shouldn’t make a profit.” Right… So I invest hundreds of thousands into a property, take on all the risk… …cover the repairs, taxes, & upkeep & I’m not supposed to earn anything in return on my investment? I provide housing for people who can’t (or don’t want to) buy yet somehow I’m the villain? How exactly do you expect homes to exist without someone paying the actual cost? It’s not exploitation.
