I’m a union organizer, Assemblymember, and democratic socialist running for Congress in NY-07. I came to politics through low-wage jobs and the labor movement. That’s the perspective I’ll bring to Washington to take on oligarchy, fascism, and war—and win for working people.

Delightful and ridiculously cute start to my day with Greenpoint’s Bike Bus to school this morning. So much admiration for how this community comes together for safer streets and the public realm.

The time this Council is spending on a bill that, depending on who you believe, either does nothing to change actual NYPD policy or (as I fear) will restrict First Amendment rights feels profoundly out of touch.
Josie Stratman@JosieStratman

Speaker Menin says that the Council was “in a position” to override Mamdani’s veto of the security perimeter bill for schools — but that they aren’t going to. “We heard [members’ concerns about the bill] & now we choose them to address them rather than dismiss them,” she says

New York: today starts hot and ends stormy. Heat index up to 95°. Heavy rain, wind gusts, and thunderstorms are possible later today.
Drink water. Stay cool. Use a cooling center if you need one — call 311 or visit finder.nyc.gov/coolingcenters.
If storms hit: take mass transit when possible, avoid flooded stations and basements, and stay clear of downed trees and power lines. If you hear thunder, head indoors.
And please check in on your neighbors. If you see a homeless New Yorker who needs help, call 311.

Philly elected a democratic socialist to Congress over millions in outside spending and the full weight of the party establishment. Congrats @chrisrabb and your whole coalition!
Justice Democrats@justicedems

.@chrisrabb just beat the establishment & AIPAC to win in #PA03! He campaigned on delivering real affordability for Philly by fighting back against the lobbies bribing our politicians to fund war & corporate profits at our expense. Proud to elect PA's second Justice Democrat!

Truly despicable behavior. And yet no surprise. I've been in 26 Federal Plaza. I've seen ICE agents laugh at court watchers while my constituents were detained in inhumane, disgusting conditions. Abolish ICE.
Peter Sterne@petersterne

So ICE is just straight-up violating a federal court order. It's not the first time, but this does seem to be a particularly blatant example. The obvious question is who can enforce the court order? I doubt U.S. marshals are going to arrest DHS agents. thecity.nyc/2026/05/19/ice…

When working people organize, they can move mountains. Congratulations to the 30,000 members of @NYHTC who just secured this historic contract. And anyone who says housekeepers don't deserve a middle class salary...can go clean their own hotel room.
Hotel and Gaming Trades Council@NYHTC

Our new contract ensures hotel workers will have the best wages and benefits in the country, and delivers life-changing financial stability to the 30,000 members who are the backbone of the hospitality industry. This is an extraordinary victory for hotel workers, the industry, and all of New York City. nytimes.com/2026/05/18/nyr…

Three are dead at the Islamic Center of San Diego in an act of violent hatred. Anti-Muslim bigotry is real and rising. It must never be normalized or accepted, no matter how many politicians and pundits traffic in it. Solidarity with the victims' loved ones and community.

Our relationship to the world should reflect the values we claim to stand for: freedom, equality, and human rights. I'm poud to be endorsed by @anewpolicyorg and in Congress, I’ll fight for a foreign policy rooted in diplomacy, sovereignty, and solidarity, not genocide and war.
Julian Andreone@JulianAndreone

⚡️SCOOP: A New Policy PAC is endorsing Claire Valdez, candidate for Congress in NY-07. The PAC promotes U.S. foreign policy towards the Middle East that recognizes Israel’s genocide in Gaza and seeks to withhold U.S. taxpayer dollars from funding similar humanitarian crises.

On the picket line with LIRR workers at Penn Station. Three years without a raise is a pay cut. Gov. Hochul and the MTA need to come back to the table and negotiate a fair contract now. The workers who run the busiest commuter rail in North America have waited long enough.
