Feels like a huge missed opportunity for blue governors to potentially sign onto this without including a condition that Trump allow offshore wind farms to get built again... would be really nice to have that capacity in this upcoming auction, no? cnn.com/2026/01/16/bus…

@cornoisseur love that the sentiment now is "let's just build it elsewhere in the state of New York" and find some less wealthy community who doesn't have the means to fight it as much 🤦‍♀️

@ClaireWayner Holtec floated a plan to restart, but she put it on the kibosh. IMO - it would take a lot for her to walk this back now. It is very much a political decision to keep the valley people happy lohud.com/story/news/loc…

I just find it odd how nowhere in Hochul's new 8 GW of nuclear in NY plan is Indian Point mentioned. Like, anywhere. Is it just that much more expensive to retrofit and reopen?? rtoinsider.com/123337-new-yor…

@ClaireWayner It would probably still be cheaper to retrofit than greenfield build. They would need a bunch of custom parts fabricated. But the containment dome is open right now, just need to send parts in instead of out. The hole in containment can be patched

Generation from coal, hydro & nuclear will stay roughly flat through the 2020s, which means all growth has to come from gas, solar & wind. Gas has very tight supply chains. Wind and solar are increasingly difficult to permit. I'm increasingly worried we're headed for the cliff.

Weirdly good siting news coming out of Indiana: their energy secretary condemns local moratoria on wind and solar & says she's working on a map of local governments that have said they want to host energy/industry. Promising! indianacapitalchronicle.com/2025/09/17/ind…

Potentially big, wonky news from FERC: FERC finds that New England utilities must disclose more info abt maintenance and upgrade projects (aka "asset condition projects"). FERC's Order to come. These sorts of projects are driving up rates everywhere. Utilities will fight this.

This is a sobering but classic misinformation story playing out in rural communities across the US. Despite the SIGNIFICANT economic benefits these installations would provide, fake news & NIMBYs drive project rejections. So sad to see. #energytwitter theguardian.com/environment/20…

What a pleasure to talk with @ClaireWayner about a sticky barrier to more transmission capacity –– a "regulatory gap" allowing utilities to prioritize small builds for big profits rather than build to meet regional capacity needs. See how we can solve it: vist.ly/3mzk27p

@bitterwaterblue so what's your solution to regional resource adequacy and resilience during dunkelflaute events or extreme weather? local renewables can only do so much
