Provinces are not completely free to decide their own future on their own. The Constitution, Indigenous treaties, and the rights of other governments all have to be considered too. So basically no province can realistically secede from Canada.

The duty to consult Indigenous Peoples is not a box-checking exercise.
It is a constitutional obligation rooted in the honour of the Crown, in the treaties that underpin this country, and in the fundamental recognition that First Nations are sovereign rights holders.
Any leader willing to disregard the duty to consult in pursuit of separatist politics is not defending Alberta, they are undermining the rule of law, dishonouring treaty relationships, weakening reconciliation, and attacking the very foundations upon which Canada was built.

I do not begrudge Quebec separatists for wanting their own country. They have a unique culture and language that makes their case plausible and understandable.
