Silksong’s story benefits from the game’s difficulty. The pilgrimage’s brutality marries the player’s struggle to that of the characters. Allowing the player to experience the lunacy of the pilgrimage lends a narrative weight to key moments that would be lost in an easy mode.

It’s the abject failure to even achieve mediocrity over the past nine years of finales that’s the most impressive. They can’t even achieve a mere 5/10. I mean, it’s never even close. The quality has ranged from worthless drivel to cataclysmic fecal eruption from the butt.

I genuinely don't think I've ever seen a convincing argument against powerscaling on here. It's either strawmanning, completely missing the point and arguing something else, or saying "okay well that's not ACTUALLY powerscaling that's something else"

It’s also a feat that as the evidence of what’s happening to Nikki mounts to create an irrefutable case, Bear shifts towards rationalisation - he’s far too cowardly to fulfil his moral obligation, and any chance at redemption is dashed by the choice he *would’ve* made by the end.

Perfect. A character’s repugnancy is more unsettling when the traits displayed are so banal. Bear is oblivious to a number of his selfish actions, which are covert enough to place his complicity in Nikki’s suffering beyond his own awareness. It makes him unnervingly human.

The negative reactions to this tweet have mainly consisted of strawman arguments and ad homs - the lack of respect people have for narrative verisimilitude is a significant component of why storytelling as a craft is struggling in the mainstream.

Power scaling encompasses any and all differences in proficiencies between characters, groups, or entities. Imagine ASOIAF, for example, stripped of all power scaling, and the devastating effect that would have on the narrative stakes, worldbuilding, and characters.
