Dystopian The wording of her final interview "they're going to euthanise me", as if it is something being done to her.
Rachael Wong@RachaelWongAus

The story of 25-year-old Spanish woman Noelia Castillo Ramos is by far one of the most horrific and devastating I have ever come across. A vulnerable young woman with mental health issues in state care, Noelia was brutally gang raped in a government-run facility in 2022. The trauma was so severe she later tried to end her life by jumping from a fifth-story window. She survived, but was left paraplegic and in physical and mental pain. Now, at just 25, her request for assisted suicide has been approved and is scheduled for TODAY: 26 March 2026. This comes after two years of legal battles which went all the way to the European Court of Human Rights, despite her father’s desperate attempts to stop it. Let that sink in. A girl in state care is raped. Is so traumatised she tries to kill herself. Left disabled and suffering. And the final “solution” the state delivers is to help her finish the job. This is not compassion. This is abandonment. A civilised society does not respond to suffering by eliminating the sufferer. Noelia deserved protection. She deserved justice. She deserved healing. Instead, she was failed by the Spanish Government at every stage - from neglect to violence to death. And we are told this is dignity. When in reality, it is an utterly appalling, heartbreaking, inhuman inversion of it. If you are the praying type, please pray for Noelia 💔🙏

@creaturaotium @whtwldbabsdo @naomicfisher Respectfully, this is not true. Most people do not 'sail through life', even successful people. Life is filled with suffering as pointed out by Buddhist philosophy. People should not self diagnose others or attempt to diagnose themselves just because they do not sail through.

@whtwldbabsdo @naomicfisher respectfully, autism is genetic, so you are more than likely also autistic and this is why that behavior bothers you. You felt accused as a non autistic person but you don't feel that you've sailed through life because you are autistic. That's why you're compelled to talk over us

Masking has no scientific validity, says Uta Frith, after sixty years of autism research. Yet masking resonates with so many autistic people. It feels true and it feels like an explanation. Both of those things can be true at the same time. Masking does resonate with many people. It describes something important about their experience. In fact, in my clinical experience masking resonates far beyond autism. It resonates for those who are socially anxious, those with OCD and those with depression. It resonates for people living in cultures they were not born into. It resonates for people going into unfamiliar or challenging environments. It resonates for many women in male-dominated workplaces. Whether or not they are autistic. And this is one of the problems. Masking is talked about as if it’s specific to autism, but the research hasn’t been done to demonstrate that. To draw that sort of conclusion, you need large scale quantitative research on representative samples. You need a carefully chosen comparison group. Online survey studies are unlikely to fulfil these criteria. Lived experience isn’t enough - no one can conclude from their lived experience whether something is autism-specific or not. There are other scientific problems with the idea of masking. It means different things to different people, and it is highly expansive. It is used to explain many different experiences - and researchers have found that there is no agreed upon definition. A third scientific problem with the concept of masking is that the evidence base is unrepresentative. Most of the research has been done on late-diagnosed females without intellectual disability - but it’s been assumed that this generalises to all autistic people. We simply don’t know if this is the case. There are other problems with the concept of masking, but these are three key issues identified in a recent review of the literature on masking/camouflaging. They looked at 389 studies. Number of papers published isn’t enough to make a concept scientifically valid. Other things matter too. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/13…

"Vegan leather" is plastic. "Vegan wool" is plastic. "Vegan fur" is plastic. Every wash cycle releases microplastics into the water. Every year it degrades slightly and releases more. At end of life it will sit in landfill for four hundred years or end up in the ocean. The sheep, meanwhile, grows a new coat every year, requires it removed, and produces a fibre that has been biodegradable since the Neolithic. But yes. The sheep is the environmental problem. The sheep, standing in the Lake District in the rain, growing renewable fibre from grass. The sheep.

I turn 39 today. In my lifetime, the world's relationship with animals has changed in two contradictory ways. 1. We have become more compassionate: - In 1986, no US state treated animal cruelty as a felony. Today all 50 do. - Back then only 20-40 countries had any animal welfare laws. Today 150-180 do. - Animal circuses, fur, and veal were normal and in high demand. Today they're stigmatized and in decline. 2. We have become crueler: - In 1986, we raised and killed ~25B land animals/year. Today, we raise and kill ~85B/year (and ~130B more farmed fish). - In 1986, a large share of those animals were still raised outdoors in decent conditions. Today, almost all are raised in hellish factory farms. I like the positive take on human progress that "The world is awful. The world is much better. The world can be much better." If you care about animals, the second claim is sadly not true. But the third claim still is. And I'd add a fourth: "We can make the world much better." On my birthday, I feel deep gratitude for everyone working to make the world much better for animals. Thanks to you, we've made more progress for animals in the last decade than in all prior decades combined. We're still far from peak cruelty. And I don't know when we'll get there -- why the chart lacks any years on the x axis :). But, thanks to you, I believe we will.

People of all ages hate JK Rowling because she became one of the world's foremost hate-mongers, spreading outrageous, hypocritical bigotry. We're ashamed of ever having been Harry Potter fans because of her modern campaign of hate; she should be ashamed of herself for doing it.
Bad Writing Takes 🖊️🏳️‍🌈@BadWritingTakes

JK Rowling is in conspiracy mode. She is claiming that young people hate her because "that's the online culture" I suppose in the sense that if you're exposed to even a small portion of JK Rowling's online behaviour it would probably lead any half-way decent person to hate her
