#dispatches call handlers in EOC have such a difficult job. There's so much to learn and hear in this programme but the among all the lessons, one of them is the pressure call handlers are often under.

gov.uk/alerts/opting-… The emergency test signal is at 3pm, this gives people a chance to opt out. Essential advice for those who might live in fear, for example domestic abuse.

Tomorrow is your very last chance to comment on this important HCPC consultation before it closes! #FitnessToPractise
Andrea James@HealthRegLawyer

The HCPC (@The_HCPC) is conducting a consultation on its proposed new Sanctions Policy for #FitnessToPractise cases and I really encourage registrants in particular to respond. Many of the points we've included in our response are legalistic (e.g. "The guidance on criminal convictions and cautions is wrong and does not reflect the updated legal position following the case of PSA v GDC & Patel [2024] EWHC 243 (Admin). Rather, it wrongly asserts the previous position from Fleischmann v GDC [2005] EWHC 87 (Admin)"). However, I think the most important feedback we've provided is that the document is unwieldy and confusing (as well as occasionally being wrong) and we think it likely that an unrepresented registrant trying to navigate the HCPC process alone would find it indecipherable. That's the real problem and missed opportunity with the current draft of the new policy and it could - and should - be greatly improved. The consultation will remain open until 1 September 2025 and can be accessed here: hcpc-uk.org/news-and-event… #FitnessToPractise

The GPhC has taken the rare step of writing to all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians & pharmacy owners to warn of "some emerging issues which have led to concerns being raised". Unfortunately, we've already seen all of these issues in the context of inquests & #FitnessToPractise proceedings in which we're instructed. The highlighted issues are: ~ Diversion of medicines by staff - Medicines ordered and stolen by members of staff ~ Checking addresses when supplying medicines at a distance - Distance-selling pharmacies sending medicines to vulnerable hospital patients ~ Supplying medicines overseas - Medicines being sent to countries in which they're not licensed, or arriving there in unsafe condition ~ Advertising and promotion of medicines - Advertising of POMs/prescription-only medicines (still illegal despite all the ads for weight loss medications!) ~ Supplies of methadone and patient information leaflets (PILs) - Supplying oral methadone without written information ~ Yellow Card reporting for GLP-1s - The MHRA is very keen for pharmacy staff to make Yellow Card reports detailing suspected side effects to GLP-1 medicines. It's essential to both be aware of the GPhC's correspondence and to act on it. In our experience, the GPhC will soon start to cite this correspondence in fitness to practise allegations, as has been the case with its 2019 correspondence entitled 'Action required: supplying medicines online safely'. #Pharmacy #CommunityPharmacy @PharmacyHour

@COPDdoc @RCPhysicians @BTSrespiratory It's great that people are offered NRT in hospital but do they get offered talking support, like a smoking cessation nurse and the CO2 detector - treatment that transfers into the community with the patient?

Out on the mental health vehicle today, a successful referral to the local crisis practitioners, arranged social care input and self care techniques for keeping the person safe. Really important to work with partners for person-centred care.
