The biggest competitive advantage at the high school level right now is nutrition. Big time programs are investing through boosters or grants to feed their athletes throughout the day. I think people would be shocked how many kids don’t eat breakfast, and not always by choice

If a school wants to add performance training into the school day, here’s how to do it right. ✅ S&C coach ✅ Schedule whole teams in one period ✅ Head coaches present for their team’s lift ✅ Non-athletes get their own period. Only allowed in athletic periods with permission

Walk after meals. Walk when you’re bored. Walk when you’re stressed. Walk between your sets. Walk in the morning. Walk at night. Walking is the most underrated exercise on the planet. Get out and get moving.

“It doesn't take a genius to say, “I'm old school.” You know what old school is? It’s an excuse for being lazy and not wanting to learn. As a staff, we spend a considerable amount of time reading and researching the most productive way to train our athletes.”

Being shifty is the most ridiculous advantage in football. - You’re always a threat to score - Coaches build the game plan around you - Schemes can’t stop you - Recruiters pour into your inbox BUT NOBODY TRAINS IT. You bench 3x a week thinking you’ll get “huge” (you won’t) and do weird cone drills you find on IG reels (they don’t work) You need to train: -REACTIVE agility -Change of direction -First step explosiveness -Elasticity -Coordination/balance Do this and you will never be the same.

Measuring 40 times from a 3 point stance is beyond archaic. Football players should focus all their time on developing real max velocity and acceleration, not obsessing over a start technique that has almost zero bearing on actual game speed. Speed absolutely matters and should be tested, but the current 40-yard dash setup wastes time on a skill that's irrelevant to on-field success. A far better measure would be a flying 40 (laser starting around the 2-yard mark, finishing at 42 yards) from a 2-point stance. That would take the technical aspect out of it and capture true speed apples to apples. We would still get elite 40-yard dash times, but it would be much more accurate without forcing guys to spend endless hours perfecting a track style start that means nothing. It's beyond idiotic that football athletes pour so much energy into mastering a technical skill that has no translation to the field and can cost them a lot of money during the draft process.
Sam Monson@SamMonsonNFL

OK, if we take the PR spin that teams had Carnell Tate's 40 time faster than the ELECTRONIC TIMING the Combine did on face value...how is that possible? Literally the only way would be for his start technique to somehow trigger the timing before scouts are starting their clocks. Interestingly, I can see it. I slowed down his start here, watch how his plant hand is basically the first thing to move, coming up before his other hand starts to swing. I could buy there's half a tenth of a second in that technque vs a guy who triggers with that back-hand starting to swing or the coil in his legs and his plant hand staying on the ground a split second longer.

But 🏈 is never a straight-line sprint! 🏈 is almost all acceleration! And game speed is only 12-18 mph, so why train at 23 mph? 💥 Faster athletes are better athletes. 💥 Getting faster is an alternative way to get "in shape" (game speeds become easier AND the fastest athletes are fastest when fatigued, #SpeedReserve) 💥 Max velocity speed is global, the tide that lifts all boats. Improved speed leads to improved everything (acceleration, strength, quickness, jumping, throwing, agility, and maybe even cognitive skills). 💥 Repeat sprints and mindless conditioning detrain speed. Tired is the enemy, not the goal. 💥 Max velocity represents the most extreme form of human movement. Nothing comes close. High speeds challenge the CNS, raising the ceiling of all movement. The floor is raised too. 💥 The brain is a protective mother whose job is survival, not performance. Sprinting teaches the brain that it's safe to "let it rip." 💥 Every coach can name their top athlete. The description always includes FAST. 💥 Even though speed training must be the priority, it's not the majority. The time spent each week at peak velocity will be in less than 30 seconds (but it's the most important 30 seconds of the week!) 💥 HEALTH - Sprint Based Football coaches are amazed that kids who push boundaries of speed on a consistent basis are nearly bulletproof. Other factors include a foundation of rest, recovery, and sleep, shorter practices, never burning the steak, and RPR. 💥 And don't forget the big cats (#TruckStick). Among the thirty 6'5" 320-pound offensive tackles invited to the NFL combine, the 4.9 guys get drafted in the first round; the 5.4 guys don't get drafted. (And, don't ever show your ignorance by saying things like, "Sometimes fast guys suck at 🏈". No one has EVER SAID that all you need is speed.) Train it or detrain it.
