@JohnRHarrell I wonder if there has ever been 2 teams in the state finals where the proximity of the schools are so close…as Borden and Eastern

This is the first time 2 conferences will have 2 teams each in the girls' state finals in the same year — Norwell and Bellmont of the Northeast 8 (they were in the same 3A sectional last year until Norwell was moved up to 4A) and Borden and Eastern (Pekin) of the Southern. Those teams were also responsible for 2 of the 3 meetings of finalists during the season. scoreboard.homestead.com/girls/field.htm scoreboard.homestead.com/girls/champsco…

The @FHSFalconhoops coach @coachgarb has 200 career wins. He has also coached both of his kids during their careers. Brodie and @brantgarber31 talk about experience. (Hat tip to the DJ for playing “Sweet Emotion” during the interview. Seemed to fit)

Congratulations to @Fairfieldgbb senior and @HU_Sports commit Eva Herbert (@_EvaHerbert) on scoring her 1,000th point tonight versus Fremont. She’s the fifth person in program history to hit the 1K mark.

There’s potential for three more area athletes to hit the 1,000-point mark this week. 👀 By my count: - Eva Herbert, Fairfield (974) ⛹️‍♀️ - Levi Sawatzky, Goshen (974) ⛹️‍♂️ - Kaden Grau, Westview (966) ⛹️‍♂️ They’d join Brady Scholl (Northridge) and Stephen Akase (Wawasee).

I keep coming back to this question: Are you willing to sprint when the distance is unknown? In 2021, Georgia Tech strength coach Lewis Caralla delivered this epic speech to the football team. If it doesn’t light a fire under you, check your pulse… He starts with a series of brutal truths: • Winning isn’t loyal to you • Winning doesn’t care about you • Winning doesn’t care how sore you are • Winning doesn’t care how hard you work • Winning doesn’t care how much sleep you’ve had But then comes the line that hit me: Are you willing to sprint when the distance is unknown? That mindset is rare. It demands two things: 1. An unshakable belief in yourself 2. A deep conviction in the mission If you have one without the other, you won’t last. You need both. From what I’ve seen, the greatest things in life are built by people willing to sprint when they can’t see the finish line: The sprint to support loved ones when they need you most. The sprint to create something meaningful. The sprint to serve others and leave a lasting mark. Your task: Identify those rare pursuits worth sprinting for when the finish line is hidden. That, to me, is what winning really is. "And why chase winning? Because the only thing that's guaranteed in life if you don't chase it is losing."

Parents: If a coach is willing to volunteer their time to coach your son or daughter, please let them do the coaching. If you really want to voice your opinion from the sideline all game, wait a few months and put your hand up to coach next season.

Tough teams do 3 things better than everyone else: 1. They communicate 2. They hold each other accountable 3. They keep showing up, no matter what It’s not just a mindset. It’s your standard.

Basketball isn’t about the highlight plays or stat lines—it’s about the *little things*. - Setting a solid screen. - Diving for a loose ball. - Talking on defense. These are the habits that separate good teams from championship teams. Build winning habits first.

PLAYERS: It's hard to hold your teammates accountable if you are not holding yourself accountable. Do what's right. Set the standard. Be the standard. Don't just tell teammates what to do, but show them how it's done.
