I’ve just finished reading Gad Saad’s book Suicidal Empathy. It ranks, along with Chris Rufo’s America’s Cultural Revolution: How the Radical Left Conquered Everything and Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay’s Cynical Theories, as the best take-down of the lunacy at the heart of the wokeist philosophy. For Saad, empathy—in itself a perfectly decent trait—has become so grossly exaggerated that it threatens truth, reality, and justice. Cases in point abound: so they won’t feel bad about themselves, we’ll allow biological men to compete in women’s sports and crush the dreams of thousands of young women; so as not to undermine the self-esteem of minorities, we will permit unqualified candidates to have positions in universities and the corporate world; so that everyone might feel included, we will characterize the meritocracy as “white privilege,” etc. As I was making my way through Saad’s book, I kept remarking the sharp distinction between empathy and love. To empathize is to enter profoundly into the experience of another and to endeavor not to hurt that person’s feelings. But to love is, as Thomas Aquinas taught, “to will the good of the other.” As I said, in itself and all things being equal, empathy is a good thing. But it is not the same as love, which, depending on circumstances, can very much involve hurting someone’s feelings. When a professor gives a student a “C” as an honest reflection of his work, he might well be insulting him, but he’s also telling him the truth and perhaps even urging him to try harder. When, in the Confessional, a priest tells a murderer to turn himself in to the police, he’s undoubtedly making that person’s life more uncomfortable, but he’s also willing the man’s good. Any decent parent knows that showing real love for her children means engendering all kinds of bad feelings in them. In light of this distinction, we can understand why Jesus didn’t say, “have empathy for one another,” but rather “love one another.” And why St. John the Evangelist didn’t say, “God is empathy,” but rather “God is love.” It occurred to me as I was reading Saad’s book that one reason Wokeism has seized the consciousness of so many in the West is that Christianity has faded as a cultural force and Christians themselves have forgotten what stands at the heart of their faith.

If you're opposed to data centers, make a pledge to stop using everything they power. Go ahead... we'll wait. A no-data-center pledge = guaranteed misery.

Mollie Hemingway breaks down the "disparity" in treatment between the liberal and conservative Supreme Court justices. "Certain" types of justices can "literally go perform on Broadway," while those seeking to uphold the Constitution "can't go out to dinner" with their families, because they "might get shot."

@margbrennan You and your colleagues eagerly spread the lie — for YEARS — that Trump stole the 2016 election by colluding with Russia but draw the line at … honestly covering declassified files that harm your narrative. Interesting.

BURN BAGS: According to President Trump, the burn bags were supposed to be destroyed. Burns bags discovered at FBI HQ contained sensitive and, in some cases, never before records: Russia Collusion probes, Mar-a-Lago, CIA referral to FBI on 2016 Hillary Clinton election activities (previously thought to be missing.) RETALIATION: AGAINST the whistleblower who exposed the suppression of the 2020 China intelligence was severe and pervasive. Time to make things right for the whistleblower.

Iran is imploding, the regime is broke, and their war machine is running on empty. Workers aren't getting paid, soldiers are deserting, and military camps are literally facing food shortages. Their entire proxy network is crumbling. All it takes is one more month of President Trump’s relentless strikes and crushing blockade to finish this. Our region has earned the right to peace and stability after decades of being terrorized by this corrupt, fascist regime. Keep the pressure on. Finish the job.

Opposition to data centers today will look like opposing electrification in 1910 or railroads in 1855. Actually, even worse, given we already use data centers to power the world right now, illustrating how oblivious people are to how things work

🚨 Sec. Marco Rubio just NAILED IT: "One of the criticisms you sometimes hear of communism is that it 'sounds good in theory, but it never works in practice.'" "That's actually NOT TRUE. Communism does NOT sound good in theory. The world that envisions for all of us is small, flat, gray, leveled of all exception, drained of all that is good and noble in the human soul." "The world that envisions is a world without courage, a world without creativity, or ambition, a world without heroes, or glory, or great causes to strive towards, without a world without miracles, without men who rise above the rest to do incredible and extraordinary things." "And the world communism envisions is a world without God." "For these architects of revolutionary violence, the towering achievement of our civilization, for them, it's an unbearable humiliation, a reminder of what they cannot do and a reminder of what they cannot be. So they choose instead to destroy." 💯

Data centers haven’t been raising residential bills. The sharpest increases are found in states that have pursued the country’s most aggressive climate policies, not those with the most data centers. California, with some of the nation’s fastest-rising electricity rates, has seen relatively modest data-center growth. Virginia, where data centers consume more than a fifth of the state’s electricity, has experienced price increases near the national average. @Shawn_Regan in the City Journal Substack: cityjournal.substack.com/p/data-centers…
