@aseitzwald You wrote that Jared Golden is "one of the only Democrats who actually has credibility on this issue." You can try to spin that into something with a totally different meaning (or allow that upon further reflection you were wrong etc etc) but that's what you wrote. #MEpolitics

Yep. If you're a DHS bureaucrat or Republican chair of a relevant subcommittee, his might be a rare Dem statement you'll even bother reading. Why should we care what a DHS bureaucrat or Republican chair of a relevant subcommittee thinks? Because they're the ones in charge right now. And if you want to change policy, you need to get the people in charge to listen.

@dabbs346 Susan Collins is just an interested observer. She has no control. Except when it comes to fire houses.

@grace_panetta Key information missing from your article which also doesn't note that Susan Collins voted to FILIBUSTER the Dem bill to codify Roe. #MEpolitics

New: The Maine Senate race is resetting around abortion — Dems are hitting Collins for her vote to confirm Kavanaugh as a top attack line, and with Platner out, they see it as easier to message without having to defend his record re: women 19thnews.org/2026/07/maine-…

@michaelkruse @aseitzwald One party (mostly) has radicalized against democracy and the other party (mostly) is trying to save the constitutional order. Does this help clear it up? Read the room.

"Everyone in politics seems to be waiting for that one climactic battle that will finally discredit their enemies forever, but it never comes and never will," says @aseitzwald, "since almost every action in politics these days has an equal and opposite reaction."

"What should have been more obvious is that charisma and intelligence can easily coexist with very dark personal qualities," @michelleinbklyn says of @grahamformaine. tinyurl.com/msjhd83k

@davidsirota Who is saying this? No one who matters to the ME-SEN race, certainly. A bunch of very online people who want to pick a fight? Who cares? Feels like the mirror image of complaints about unnamed Bernie Bros tainting Sanders candidacy. #MEpolitics

Look, I’m not from Maine so what do I know…but my guess is the cause of defeating Susan Collins wouldn't be helped by Dem elites & online liberal know-it-alls smugly insinuating that 150,000 Mainers who voted for Platner are all credulous rubes, Nazis and/or misogynists whose policy preferences should be ignored/mocked in the selection of a new Democratic Senate nominee. But again, I’m not from Maine, so what do I know…

Have to say I’m confused as to why Shenna Bellows is being judged so harshly for a poor statewide result from more than a decade ago when 1.) she’s not the only potential replacement who’s lost a race 2.) Senate control (mostly) hinges on these previously unsuccessful candidates

@TeamCollins207 @nirav_maine Why does every letter that the Maine press publishes in support of Susan Collins seem to be by a campaign operative or a professional Republican she's funneled money to? What does that say about the energy behind your campaign?

Campaign energy check ⚡️For months, Democrats told Maine voters that Graham Platner was their future. Now, they're scrambling to find a replacement & keep the energy high. How are they doing? You tell us. First in a series, starting with @nirav_maine. 🐶🍿

@brennanleach The Maine Democratic Party is literally deciding through an open, representative process. Among Maine Democrats. And of course among the many differences with 2024, in this case the unpopular, DC-lifer incumbent is the one staying in the race, not leaving. #MEpoltiics

Several Mainers who backed Platner say him dropping out feels like Biden’s last minute exit from the 2024 race “It's a Kamala Harris situation. Whoever walks in here is kind of behind the eight ball right away,” one voter told NBC “It’s just thrown confusion into everything.” Another said similar to ‘24, he feels Dems are being “stymied” by “power brokers” of the party pushing out the nominee “They're not Mainers… Maine people should decide, but the people don't have a chance to do that.”

@mainebeerbrewer You entered the race for Senate; said you wouldn't drop out if Mills entered; and then endorsed her and slithered away the moment she got in the race. What lessons should folks draw from that about your leadership capabilities? #MEpolitics

I'm not a career politician. I spent the last 20 years building a small business that started at my kitchen table and now employs over 100 Mainers. We’ve proven right here in Maine that you can build a business that works for the employees, and works for the community. That is exactly the kind of accountability we need to bring to Washington.

@AnthonyMEmerson The fair point is that a politically-aware progressive looking for someone willing to shake up the system would have been all-in on Bellows...as Mamdani was...and that Platner wasn't is telling given his contemporaneous lefty Reddits. Suggests he wasn't really engaged at all.
