Industrial heritage in Chesham. This is what remains of the weir impoundment holding back water to power Cannons Mill, long since demolished. Fortunately we have a functioning bypass that allows fish passage upstream to the spawning gravels. ⁦@ChilternsNL⁩ ⁦

Our @ZSLMarine experts Alison Debney, Joe Pecorelli and Catherine Head are at the Government launch of the #CleanWaterNow campaign, joining partners from across the environmental sector. The event brings together influence from Emma Hardy, Water and Flooding Minister, @tobyperkinsmp and @RSBenwell , CEO of @WCL_News, to discuss why urgent reform of England’s water system is needed now. Our team is there because the science is clear. Earlier this year, our State of the Thames report showed that while the Thames has recovered from being “biologically dead”, its revival remains fragile. Nationally, just 14% of rivers are in good ecological condition — and none are in good chemical health. Healthy rivers are essential for wildlife recovery, flood resilience, water security, public health and access to nature. As part of this coalition, we are calling for: • Strong, legally binding water quality targets • Real accountability for polluters • A ban on harmful chemicals • Investment in nature-based solutions and river restoration The Clean Water Now report highlights the reforms needed to restore our rivers and seas. Now is the moment to turn ambition into action. Find out more about our work for Clean Water Now: bit.ly/4qUIlJC #CleanWaterNow #CreatingChange #RestoringEcosystems
