Ants. I've said it before, and I shall say it again. Ants are the most homicidal, genocidal, regicidal, fratricidal, cannibalistic, caste-based, slave-drivers in the animal kingdom: far beyond even humanity. Ants experience and perpetuate violence that would fit perfectly in a Warhammer 40K novel. The mere presence of another ant colony is an existential threat to your own colony. The only solution to that threat is annihilation, enslavement, and consumption. If anybody that besmirches the human condition and compares it disfavorably with nature to you, remind them of the cruelty of ants.

"Ugh, only humans wage war on each other" ~Some 14 year old "Let the seas boil! Let the stars fall!" ~Tortoise after his leaf is eaten by another tortoise over a century ago
Nature Unedited@NatureUnedited

These two giant tortoises have been fighting each other for over 120 years. According to the zoo, one tortoise stole the other’s food 120 years ago, and from that day on they became enemies. There hasn’t been a single day where they haven’t fought for a while

According to the manifesto, the attackers behind the San Diego Islamic Center attack scoped out multiple “diverse targets” and were leaving it to fate if they could hit more than one location. For the people asking, “If they hated Jews, why attack an Islamic Center?” because just like the KKK, they hated BOTH Muslims and Jews.

One of the reasons highly educated people tend to be so remarkably stupid and destructive is that they don’t know anyone who functions in the real world their ideas are intended to change. They have ideas about war without having ever seen war, and without knowing anyone who actually fought. They have ideas about crime without having committed crimes themselves or knowing hard-core criminals. They have ideas about justice without having been victimized, and without knowing cops. They have ideas about capitalism without having ever started a bricks and mortar business or knowing anyone who had. Its a giant tower of bullshit. The fantasy world they live in is removed from human mess. Some of them are insulated by inherited wealth. Others are ambitious social climbers who are taught to reject their families of origin as bigots as the price of admission. They understand religion as primitive superstition and as a result have zero understanding of human life. They see themselves reflected in the shrinking mirrors of elite opinion and prestige institutions that tell them they are beautiful and righteous, even as those institutions themselves are rotting away. We all know these people. We spend our lives being condescended to by them, while they destroy what it took others decades or centuries to create. Their record of unrelieved failure doesn’t seem to make any impact on what has become a closed culture which continues to congratulate itself on its genius while blaming the rest of society for its escalating failures. Twenty years ago, there was still a widespread awareness that this was a bad situation — if only because the Democratic Party still thought that talking to the middle of the country was the only way to win elections. Bill Clinton was the model, however flawed, of how to reconcile the meritocrats and their chain-smoking slot-machine playing aunts. Plenty of Republicans followed that model. It involved a lot of fakery. But it created at least some common ground, which in turn offered a way out. Now you have the moronic radicals on the left at war with the radicalized morons on the right. Together, they represent at most 30% of the American public. But the tools of coercion and division that they have at their fingertips are only growing more powerful. The remaining 70% still wants to enjoy life and make new stuff. Thats where hope lies. But we need to build more, better, and faster — and to make new friends.

It’s literally the left eating the left. There are 2 factions in the San Diego Democrat party and they are fighting for control. On one side are the moderate, establishment business friendly Dems On the other, the Democrat Socialists who want 12 year olds to have trans surgeries at taxpayer expense It’s like when Republicans call each other “Rhinos”

@garrytan @Noahpinion When someone from my specific ethnic group does something bad, I like to see them punished and made an example of, to emphasize that is not our typical behavior. When you make excuses for your own, you are basically saying, “yeah, many of us are bad like that, leave us alone”.

A California mayor just pled guilty to being a literal foreign agent of the Chinese government. She ran a CCP propaganda website disguised as local news. NBC's angle? The real problem is that reporting on it "reignited fears of anti-Asian discrimination." As an Asian American: accurately reporting that a foreign agent infiltrated local government is not anti-Asian. Framing it that way to suppress the story is. Using "anti-Asian bias" as a shield to protect an actual CCP agent from scrutiny is the most anti-Asian thing I can think of. It implies that Chinese Americans are so fragile, or so suspect, that we can't handle the truth about foreign espionage in our own communities. We can handle it. We're the ones most harmed by it. nbcnews.com/news/us-news/b…

🚫 What happens if Measure E fails? The mayor's plan has no backup to meet the 700-officer requirement. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Instead, Mayor Lee threatened “longer emergency response times, reduced patrol presence... we will be forced to close firehouses.” For services voters 'saved' 2 years ago by approving Measure NN.

💸 Oakland voters approved Measure NN in 2024 — a $47 million-per-year tax — on a promise of at least 700 police officers. The city has only around 610 officers on its payroll today. Now Mayor Barbara Lee says the city needs Measure E — $34 million more — to keep its promise. 👇
Oakland Report@oaklandreportca

🚨 Mayor Barbara Lee's new budget admits Oakland can only meet Measure NN's 700-officer requirement if voters approve a SECOND parcel tax — Measure E — on June 2. Meanwhile, NN funds are being diverted to fire equipment the measure doesn't authorize. Pay twice. Same services. 👇 oaklandreport.org/p/mayor-barbar…

Teaching in the age of LLMs: I failed 4 students, for the first time ever. I also gave more A+'s than ever before. In previous years, students realized after the first or second HW that they weren't in Kansas anymore and needed to work hard. No more. Just solve it with LLMs. But then the midterm arrives, and they can answer 0 of 40 questions. Do they reform their ways? Nah, they just decide to "give up" on class, assuming they'll get a B, or a C, or whatever, because they submitted HW and got decent grades on those. And never before have they encountered a professor who will dare fail them. The flip side is that the most "agentic" students now have the world's best tutor at their disposal. They deeply understand the material and aced my (intentionally very difficult) exams. As if we live in "The Diamond Age". Inequality galore. From my vantage point, "the permanent underclass" appears to be about agency, not assets.

If you want change in American entertainment, stop posting about it and start patronizing it. Stop complaining about how "woke" it all is; start investing in artists. If men like Elon look at arts patronage not in terms of how his investment might enrich himself but in terms of how it would enrich society, things will change VERY quickly.

I screw up A LOT as a parent. However, I did a couple of things when my kids were little, that has benefitted me in the teen years. When my daughter was 6 she said she wished I was dead. My concern wasn’t about the disrespect, but what if I did die in a car accident that day, and she blamed herself- it would ruin her life. While she was at school I took down all the holiday decorations, removed all the cute clothes from her closet, all of the fun toys and books, basically removed everything that was so clearly provided by “mom” and then I was gone when she came home from school. She came home and asked her dad where all the Halloween decorations went, he said “that was all your mom” “where’s mom?” “She’s not here” “when’s she coming home?” “I don’t know, but didn’t you say you wished she was dead? You should be happy she’s gone.” I came home around 8 pm to a very tearful apologetic 6 yr old. We spent the next day putting everything back. Her teen years have been insanely rough, but she never uses death or leaving or anything else as a threat.

Yep! The Democrats want to avoid an R vs R race so they are trying to boost Hilton. But they also want to avoid a D vs D scenario which drains party money. So they impersonate Republicans using reverse psychology to make the person think they are getting an actual attack ad. Candidates rarely do attacks on the other party in a primary. Instead they appeal to their own base

California Democrats are impersonating Republicans and sending deceptive political mailers to Republican voters. Here’s the trick: the mailer is designed to look like an attack on Steve Hilton when it’s actually meant to help Democrats. Lesson: never trust a political mailer. Always read the disclosure on the back to see who is really paying for the propaganda.
Rob Pyers@rpyers

The Democratic Governors Association really wants GOP voters to know that Steve Hilton is 'Endorsed by Trump' and 'Pro MAGA', and that they would be devastated if he advanced out of California's top two primary alongside a Democrat.
