The Deputy Master met with Tom Johnston, Rouge Croix Pursuivant at the College of Arms, earlier today to collect the beautiful letters patent for our new Coat of Arms. They will be displayed for the first time at our livery banquet at Mansion House this Friday.

A fascinating debate among seven of the City’s livery companies: “human creativity cannot flourish in a Tik Tok world?” We all want to think it can but rising social isolation, declining attention spans, and a diminution of cognitive capital cause concern.

Thank you Penny for speaking to us about the importance of maintaining and nurturing so much of what makes Britain distinct. I will long remember you quote from Mahler: “Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire.”

Delighted to address the youngest livery company @CommsLivery tonight on Britain’s creativity, adaptability and reliability and how our traditions and culture help us navigate turbulent times. Thank you all for your support for Pomp & Circumstance.

Truly honoured to receive the Freedom of the City of London today, a tradition extending back to 1237, and to follow in the footsteps of the late Queen and Churchill and livery movements representing centuries of public service in the City. My sincere thanks to the @CommsLivery.

A great privilege, as part of the first ever @CommsLivery Master’s away weekend for company members, to read the first lesson at this morning’s service @ExeterCathedral. Many thanks to all the Cathedral for their warm welcome.

Many congratulations @BBCSteveR, the 2025 recipient of the Charles Wheeler Award for outstanding contributions to broadcast journalism. As the last person on Earth able to challenge Vladimir Putin publicly in his own language, he has also become a voice for millions of Russians.

The ability to drive sheep over the bridge into the City without paying tolls is an ancient right of Freemen of the City of London. Very good to join other members of @CommsLivery today to do just that and raise money for charity at the same time. #SheepDrive
