Tbh I think this is a good natural experiment regarding his chops as a politician and campaigner because any realistic shot for him to run for President is contingent on getting KLB over the finish line too.
Greg Bluestein@bluestein

Jon Ossoff is making two big bets in his reelection campaign: Run harder against Donald Trump in a state Trump carried in 2024. And lock arms early with Keisha Lance Bottoms to show Democrats are unified while Republicans slog through costly runoffs. #gapol

Here's a map of the average presidential margin by county in Nevada from 1892 to 1900. The Democratic/Populist coalition dominated throughout the state, especially in areas that were dependent on silver mining.

@umichvoter People keep speculating rehab but tbh I wonder if he had a stroke or something that would noticeably impact his ability to communicate.

@questionableway You have a pretty similar follow count to me and I’ve seen the same thing. It’s either like 5k plus likes or a handful and there’s not really any rhyme or reason to it.

noticing posts are extremely bimodal lately. depending on initial interactions, they either go super mega viral or die instantly & neither way is fun. the optimal number of likes is 50-250 & i don’t think i’ve been in that range at all for a while

@vivian39_ Well, ok not exactly the risk of the outer darkness part, Mormon theology is pretty clear about how extraordinarily difficult it is to end up in other darkness. But more the attitude of “eh I don’t think I could make the celestial kingdom but the others sound fine.”

@vivian39_ Some interesting Mormon folklore gets built up around trying to dissuade people from this exact attitude.
Conner Hafen@Conblob

@maxtmcc @LinkofSunshine One of the funnier Mormon cultural folk beliefs/unofficial doctrines is that nobody outside of the celestial kingdom will have genitalia in spite of being physically resurrected and those technically still being “heaven.” Ken/Barbie doll type resurrected form I guess lol.

the problem with joining mormonism is that it presents a certain reverse pascals wager. i'm happy with the terrestrial kingdom, it seems fine. if i became mormon, that'd risk me/ my children going to Outer Darkness which is bad. not worth it

@WillKiley @GeraldLeroy6 You’d think the first DNA test would’ve been conclusive. Crazy to keep doing it twice a week after that.

@vivian39_ I worry that businesses are gonna continue pushing it too far though tbh. It’s so infuriating seeing tip prompts in previously unprecedented contexts for it. I get why (the iPad thing makes it basically effortless to setup) but it’s still so annoying.

it's beautiful that Tipping still works. it's a social norm that people actually follow despite no Actual enforcement. very rare these days, since Gaming the system has been in vogue

The water usage around AI is in some ways overblown, but it’s not like it’s totally fake either - especially given our huge regional drought. Also the fact that this project will use like 2x the current power consumption of the entire state is absolutely crazy.

It’s surprised me how big of an issue this huge data center project in Box Elder County has become. Locally it’s a very big deal but it’s getting national coverage now and I think people like Spencer Cox underestimated the pushback.

Here's a map of the average presidential margin by county in Michigan from 1888 to 1892. Republicans were strong with Anglo and Dutch voters in central and western Michigan, while Democrats did well with immigrants in southeastern and northern Michigan.

If the Trump era has shown us anything, it’s that the only “rules” that exist are the ones written down in black and white (and sometimes not even those). Packing the court is at least as legitimate as anything Rs have done and is totally within congress’s power to do.

Cons are pushing this “we changed the court by being patient” line when the answer really is “we changed the court through unprecedented obstruction, and then an unprecedented rushed confirmation.”

This is the type of assertion you make when you’re working backwards from a conclusion you like - “the Court is not partisan” - instead of just evaluating what the Court is actually doing.
Gregg Nunziata@greggnunziata

You can fairly say a couple of Justices, on both ends of the Court, let their partisan priors warp their legal reasoning, but the Court is not partisan, the majority is not partisan, and the Chief is certainly not partisan. Criticize on other grounds
