International law applies to all States, without exception. Respect for its rules is not optional. Without it, instability spreads, mistrust deepens & conflicts spiral out of control. This is not the moment to retreat from international law. It is the moment to reaffirm it.

There is no military solution to the crisis in the Middle East. Serious negotiations must resume. The ceasefire must be preserved – and extended as necessary. And international navigational rights & freedoms – including in the Strait of Hormuz – must be respected by all parties.

Every 2 minutes, a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth. Most of these deaths are preventable. Conflict exacerbates the risk. Nearly 2/3 of maternal deaths take place in fragile and war-affected settings. @WHO is calling for greater efforts to protect maternal health.

After weeks of destruction & distress, it is clear that there is no military solution to the current conflict in the Middle East. I call for resumption of talks for an agreement to be reached. The ceasfire must absolutely be preserved. All violations must cease. All parties to the conflict must respect the freedom of navigation, including in the Strait of Hormuz, in line with international law.

Nearly 34 million people in #Sudan need assistance, and more than 19 million are acutely hungry, following three years of war. Families are still fighting to survive, even as the world looks away. Help us keep lifelines open.

Gravely concerned by reports #Israel cabinet in April approved 34 new settlements in occupied West Bank – the highest number ever approved at one time. This continues the sharp upward trend of unlawful settlement building that extends & consolidates Israel's annexation of occupied Palestinian territory.
