Dads, do you know the look on your sons face and you make eye contact when he finds you in the stands right before he steps onto the mat for his match, the batters box for his at bat or the field for his game? It’s not a nervous glance He’s finding his anchor

@DQuilici1 @Fynnderella1 2. Bending the rules for sports is a terrible modus operandi. Injuries happen, players don’t develop, and becoming a professional athlete is insanely difficult even for already gifted college athletes. Schools and players should be encouraged towards success in all walks of life

I wouldn’t say most are gifted students or that they are as skilled in the classroom as they are in the field. That may be the case at Duke where you played and were educated, which is really not the norm across all of D1 or all of college sports. I’m saying that as a compliment to you and your peers. The standard should be high, but coaches/admin/teachers/etc. all bend the rules for an incredibly gifted athlete that just doesn’t care about school.

A student-athlete turned in a 146-word essay about Rosa Parks — one paragraph, riddled with errors, no sources — and got an A-minus. That single paper helped expose the biggest academic fraud in NCAA history. For 18 years, from 1993 to 2011, a department secretary named Deborah Crowder ran fake courses at the University of North Carolina. @UNC The classes never met. There was no syllabus and no professor. Students turned in one paper per semester. Crowder admitted she never read them. She skimmed introductions and handed out A’s. UNC’s academic counselors steered athletes into these courses each semester, specifying what grades each player needed. Athletes made up 47% of enrollments despite being just 4% of the student body. Rashad McCants, a star on UNC’s 2005 championship team, told ESPN he made the Dean’s List without attending a single class. Ten of fifteen players on that title team were enrolled in paper courses. When whistleblower Mary Willingham revealed that 60% of athletes read at a 4th-to-8th grade level, UNC attacked her publicly and fans sent death threats. She was forced to resign. In October 2014, a 136-page investigation confirmed the scope: 188 fake classes, 3,100 students, 18 years of fraud. And the punishment? In October 2017, the NCAA ruled there were no significant violations. Zero penalties. No vacated wins. No postseason bans. @UNC calls themselves a bastion of academia. How incredibly pathetic.

@DQuilici1 @Fynnderella1 1. UNC, the school in question, is very similar to Duke on an academic standpoint. I also think you’re equating “athletes” with the stereotype of football and basketball players at big name P4 schools when they’re a very small percentage of college athletes.

Good Friday isn’t about the universal virtue of “sacrifice.” It’s about Christ’s particular sacrifice - his brutal crucifixion - a real, historic event with eternal consequences. “[Jesus], being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” On this Good Friday, let’s all solemnly remember Christ’s propitiatory sacrifice and glorify Him.
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

Today, on Good Friday, we mark a day of sacrifice. Some New Yorkers will abstain from eating; others will spend hours without speaking. Faith, the Bible tells us, is belief in the things unseen. That belief is what will guide so many of our neighbors in solemn reflection and reverence. I wish all those observing Good Friday a blessed day of peace.

@DQuilici1 @Fynnderella1 Most college athletes are gifted students as well as athletes, and should be held to that standard. Academic performance is a prerequisite to athletics. Most D1 athletes are as skilled in the class as they are on the field and should be held to that standard.

@Fynnderella1 Ma’am I get your point but those athletes aren’t there for their academic prowess. Most of them barely graduated high school. They bring in value to the school thru athletics and in turn they get a venue to play at. It’s well known and has been going on for decades.

Today is Good Friday. Thank you, Jesus for your amazing and unthinkable sacrifice. You died so that we would have life, and life in abundance. “It was nine in the morning when they crucified him. The written notice of the charge against him read: the king of the jews … With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, ‘Surely this man was the Son of God!’” Mark 15

Julius Caesar did nothing wrong. The Optimates had spent the last 100 years kicking Roman citizens off their land so the rich could replace them with foreign slave labor. They killed every reformer who tried to stop them. Caesar was the moderate option. They killed him too.
Ron DeSantis@RonDeSantis

Uh, yeah, which is why the Founders detested Caesar. They viewed the fall of the Roman republic as a civilizational tragedy.
